According to Vedanta, there are only two symptoms of enlightenment, just two indications that a transformation is taking place within you toward a higher consciousness. The first symptom is that you stop worrying. Things don't bother you anymore. You become light-hearted and full of joy.
1. Tell us more about yourself and your profession.
Acharya Advait Yobhushan, a luminary yogi and a founder of AHimalayanYogi Institutes, is a teacher of Yogic and Vedic sciences and a spiritual mentor to many prominent personalities- sportsmen and parliament dignitaries alike. He started his Yogic journey quite early on in his life and has ever since been utilizing his wisdom to help guide others to light.
His vision is to restore Yoga to its former glory and bring back the Gurukul education system in India, and he has been working tirelessly towards that goal. For instance, he has conducted seminars in institutions like IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, worked for camps at UNESCO, WHO, etc, helped created more than 180 teachers through his Yoga Teacher Training Course, he’s also been giving free Yoga sessions every day at 7am on Instagram ( via @ahimalayanyogi profile) lately.
Guruji now plans to conduct Holy expeditions for Youth in the womb and foothills of the Himalayas. These expeditions would be like a doorway to spirituality in an adventurous way for people and in no way, will endorse any particular religion.
2. What is enlightenment?
According to Vedanta, there are only two symptoms of enlightenment, just two indications that a transformation is taking place within you toward a higher consciousness. The first symptom is that you stop worrying. Things don't bother you anymore. You become light-hearted and full of joy.
The second symptom is that you encounter more and more meaningful coincidences in your life, more and more synchronicities. And this accelerates to the point where you actually experience the miraculous destiny. Always remember we cannot create our destiny; we can participate in its unfolding. Synchronicity works as a catalyst toward working out of that destiny.
3. What is your fitness mantra?
Omkar - it is the paramount mantra to bring all the atoms of your body in sync with each other. The chanting of this mantra with the correct technique can be done by only those who have been consistent in their Yog Sadhna, where one is able to sit with his spine absolutely erect, and the other is Pranayama, which allows one to extend the makaar sound with ease and do justice to the other rules of Om chanting as well. Thus, the state of mental health is of supreme value, and Omkar enables one to be liberated from the physical world to enter the astral world within.
4. What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?
Food is a mere fuel to keep our physical body going. Yes, the quality of fuel can impact one’s life; however, it is not the be-all and end-all. Moreover, diets have become a fad and fake now, whereas the whole ballgame is of water retention in the body. Having late dinners and salt consumption leads to bloating in the whole body and especially the face. People need to realize that they need to bring mindfulness while eating irrespective of what they are eating.
Yoga, on the other hand, is not an exercise. It is the complete opposite of it, in a sense. After a session of exercising, one is left gasping for air; whereas yoga teaches one the art of breathing, it teaches you to reach an equilibrium, stability.
As per the Yoga Sutra - Sukham sthiram asanam - One needs to attain stability and blissfulness in an asana. When you attain proper alignment in an asana, your body itself will reward you with the release of happy hormones. Yoga doesn’t leave your body with aches and pain, rather it relieves it and transcends you to a higher level of consciousness.
5. How can one maintain a healthy lifestyle with Yoga?
Yoga is a philosophy and art, not merely a way to get healthy. Once you start practicing diligently, you will start experiencing the release of dopamine, serotonin, DMTs, etc. in your system, which are mood enhancers and thus help in reducing the stress and depression levels, important for a healthy mental state. Correcting your alignment will help you prepare for the next stage of ashtanga yoga which is pranayama with a healthy spine and enhanced lung capacity.
Additionally, meditating during Brahma muhurta helps one segment the thought process in the mind, stay productive and creative throughout the day. When one comes to list the ways through which yoga makes your life “healthier”, the list will be endless. However, you have to actually practice daily to know how Yoga can transform your life.
6. How can one build a successful career in your field?
People have started to recognize the power Yoga has in bringing a change for the better. Now, it is time that we need to imbibe yoga into our everyday lives. Starting from the children of the country, to the people working endless 9-to-5 in corporate houses, everyone needs to be stress-free, productive, and creative, and to do so, we need certified, dedicated, and learned yoga teachers, who can guide the lost souls towards a healthy and a conscious living.
From Kids Yoga in school to yoga teachers in the gym, corporates, residential societies, and parks, dance studios, fitness clubs, sports associations, hospitals, private teachers, everywhere are in huge demand.
7. What is one piece of advice you would like to give someone who wishes to practice yoga?
If you wish to learn yoga, you need to quit these four vices: ahankar, aalasya, avidya, and aatma. These act like shackles that wouldn’t let you complete your journey. Once you purify your mind of these vices, no matter who you are or what your age is, you would be able to learn yoga with purity.
8. How do Yoga and daily exercise contribute to overall well-being and happiness?
Our state of mind is shaped by our environment and our thoughts. Many times we can’t have control over what is happening around us, but when we practice yoga we become conscious of our thoughts and emotions. Everything that we experience and feel, comes from within. Yoga helps you reach this stage of awakening where you can identify the things that are going wrong but also realize that they can’t hamper your happiness and state of mind.
