Leon Lee - I Keep Trying Different Topics Of Film With Different Actors (Film Director, USA)

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I started learning drawing at the age of 3. I traveled between Beijing and Moscow while growing up and eventually went on to attend Beijing Foreign Studies University, where I studied literature and joined the school's film society. 

I created shorts like Magic Tree and Hard Working before releasing longer-form work. I had a video camera in 90s, which was rare at that time. I got a lot of historical recording at that time.

2. What inspired you to become a film director?

I Worked as a virtual effects specialist on film, All People Witness (2012) . The feature starred Sun Honglei - a Chinese famous actor - as an criminal and father.  I thought I could make some improvement for china movies, so I joined Illinoi Film Studios and directed Rich Men and other films. 

However, there's strict sensor limited my ability, so I immigrated to USA.  I directed films Triple Love (2019), Back to Evil (2020), Fraud in Fraud (2020) in Los Angeles.

3. In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a film director?

Independent Thought with some society experience.

4. Who is your role model and why?

James Cameron. When I learnt that he was a truck driver and then became a director, I believe I can do the same. I used to be a programmer.

5. How do you keep yourself inspired and motivated?

I keep trying different topics of film with different actors. I like American local actor Judd Angel,who helped me a lot.

6. What is your mantra of success?

"I CAN DO IT."

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

"War and Peace". It  is a literary work mixed with chapters on history and philosophy by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy.
