I think any musician should experience a reality show as they get to learn from it a lot and it helps with understanding yourself where you truly stand and how far your journey is.
1. Tell us more about your background and journey.
I come from an Assamese family. I am born and brought up in Delhi. My father is a film-maker and creative head in PTC (television) network. My mother is a homemaker and she used to be an Assamese folk and classical dancer. My brother is currently studying sound at whistling woods international college, Mumbai. Basically, I come from a musical background as everyone in my family are related to music and art.
2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?
I was 3 when I started learning Tabla. Since then, I would say my journey of music began. We had many jamming sessions, live performances and competitions in school in which I won many awards in tabla and other music competitions. I began singing at 12. I used to sing English songs whilst playing the guitar.
Then I grew more into Bollywood songs and I just kept on singing as I knew I wanted to pursue music. I uploaded my first music cover video on youtube in 2017 and I kept on it after that. In lockdown 2020, I took up singing more seriously and I and my brother got more engaged in music videos and covers.
In the lockdown, there were Indian Idol auditions happening online and I thought to submit my video for auditions not knowing what would happen ahead. From there I got selected and cleared all pre auditions and I was called to Mumbai for further processes. I was in the top 14 of the Idol contestants leading me to the show.
3. Who is your favourite artist and why?
3. Who is your favourite artist and why?
I would say ‘Arijit Singh’ is my favourite of all because he inspires me to be a better version of myself in music and he has the quality in which he inspires people to sing which I would say is quite rare. He presents each one of his projects with perfection which inspires people and I would say he is a gift to music.
4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a singer?
4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a singer?
Nowadays, I think social media is one of the best platforms for singers, instrumentalists or any artists to showcase their talent to the public and good talents are really appreciated among them. 5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?
5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?
Training is definitely recommended among artists if one is really talented in their respective field. But however, it is not mandatory anywhere. People can be self-taught and be inspired by other artists. I believe the more practise and hard work an artist does, the better he/she gets at it as they grow through learning and experience.
6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?
The only advice I would give to our future aspiring artists is that they never stop learning and growing and never give up on their passion.
