Introduction
Genre: Comedy Drama
Cast: Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar
Director: Laxman Utekar
Language: Hindi
Everyone has aspirations to accomplish a goal and become successful. In fact, these dreams at times become your fate but at other times get pulled over by the said fate. Something similar happens with the protagonist of this masala comedy. And as much as the director has tried to manifest that it’s a fresh concept with a relevant issue. It all the more seems to be a spin-off of ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’.
But what else can one expect from Bollywood, rather than a bunch of reprises? Anway, the plot is still worth discussing. A small town Mimi(Kriti Sanon) is all about glamor, Bollywood, movies and tons of dancing. In fact, she pops on the screen dancing to a peppy item song ‘Param Sundari’.
Her friend Shama(Sai Tamhankar) organizes shows for her which might seem cheap but she isn’t a prostitute. She has only dream to make it to Bollywood and at present all she wants is a portfolio shoot done by Mr. Dabbo Ratnani.
Alongside is a story of a mediocre driver Bhanu Pratap Pandey( Pankaj Tripathi) who finds a couple in search of a healthy and young surrogate mother after failing multiple times. After rummaging through the town he goes full circle finding just about the right girl(you know who). So, Mimi who initially dismisses Bhanu eventually accepts the offer in exchange for the money for her career. She yet again has it all planned, but like I said fate has some other plans.

Broken Dreams and Different Beliefs
Just when it seemed everything was as planned, destiny took a U-turn. When a 5 month pregnant Mimi was in her dream bubble, already a big movie star woke up from a nightmare. Or maybe it wasn’t a nightmare. The sponsors of her movie career themselves become the biggest obstacle, when they leave her in the middle of nowhere, after finding out that the baby is abnormal.
Even though her life seems bleak and dark, she doesn’t relent. Like a runaway girl, she comes back home to her parents, who were told that she has gone to work. And not unlike Indian parents they lose it but unlike all typical middle-class folks, they allow her to keep the baby, without actually understanding the meaning of surrogacy. It feels good to see these supportive and cute parents. But it also feels too good to be true.
Mimi and her friend pose Bhanu as the father of her kid, who apparently is married. But don't movies make it a cakewalk, because the parents accept this ugly truth also. Anyway, what begins is a new mommy life for Mimi, a kind of break from her dreams.
Amidst all the comedy and grief is a beautiful bond of the family, Mimi and her kid and Bhanu. Bhanu has played a very significant character, starting from giving refuge to Mimi to hide from the world to being a fake partner to Mimi in all the chaos.
It does feel sad to see Mimi’s dreams break and become a mother out of nowhere. But at the same time we have a lovely sight to watch when Mimi gives birth to the cutest white baby ever. Even though an American, he seems very Indian and even though the baby carries the accent. It only feels cuter.
However, yet again Mimi’s life is in turmoil when the real baby parents are back into the picture. What do you think Mimi will do?
Personal Verdict
The story, even though very dramatic and lacks originality, isn’t boring. And as they say, “fiction is an escape from reality”, you can enjoy this sweet tale of a girl aiming to be a bollywood queen out of the blue who becomes Mother Mary. And to say the least the baby Jesus/little Krishna is more than what Mimi could have had otherwise.
Kriti Sanon has done a fairly good job with her character, with a transformation in her acting repertoire. She has put on quite a number of kgs, but she doesn’t look any worse.
There are a lot of funny sequences which are part funny and part redundant. The story has a Pankaj Tripathi, who never fails to surprise you, his character often seemed superior to Kriti’s.
The movie needless to say could turn out to be a Saturday night.
My Ratings for the movie : 3 on 5
