Nathalie Kollo - You Must Be Strong-Willed And Unbreakable And Never Leave Your Own Self, Make Your Dreams Come True (Singer/Songwriter From Germany)

Nathalie Kollo

Talent is a very small part. You always have to work yourself and always improve.

You must be strong-willed and unbreakable and never leave your own self.

 Make your dreams come true.

Many people want to become famous and become singers, but only a few have an interesting voice for it ( recognizable ) and still few manage to make a successful career with heart, voice and head.

You have to be incredibly persistent and not overestimate yourself.

1.Tell us more about your background and journey.

I am the 4th generation singer from a famous musical German family. Both my parents are ( world ) famous singers and I am a singer / actress myself. I am the daughter of the pop singer Dorthe Kollo and the heroic tenor and chamber singer René Kollo.

I grew up in Denmark and Germany. I received my training as a musical actress and singer at the Theater School Copenhagen and at the Musical School Hamburg. In addition, I took vocal studies with Vicky Hall (Berlin) and Erika Zimmermann (Munich).

Since then, I have been a freelance singer. In 1989 I started my first band, with which I performed in Denmark. And then I toured the German-speaking countries with the Kai Rautenberg Trio and Horst Jankowski, among others.

I was also on stage at big band concerts with jazz and swing music. In 1995 I received my first live show Quincert on Danish television. With Oh Happy Day I went on a gospel tour in the same year.

I then spent time in Los Angeles from 1996 to 1998, where I wrote texts and compositions in addition to several concerts. Back in Germany, I took on the female lead role at the Störtebeker Festival in the summer of 1998.

Her pregnancy inspired me to produce the children's book Piet der Spinnerich in 1999 as well as the children's song CD of the same name.

With my father René Kollo I am occasionally on stage at concerts and show performances, including in 2004 at the Spring Festival of Folk Music (ARD).

2.
When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music and how did you start?

I already knew at the age of 4 that I wanted to go on stage and started singing professionally at the age of 15.

My great-great-grandmother was a Polish pianist and played the organ in the church. My Great-Grandfather: Walter Kollo was the first famous composer and big band leader in Germany.

My grandfather: Willi Kollo was a famous composer and poet in Germany. My father is a world famous opera tenor ( Wagner specialist ) and has had great successes on all major opera houses stages.

My mother is a Danish ( kinder star ) singer ie at the age of 16 to Germany and became a " Schlager " singer with many hits.

As a child I always sang along to the radio and can recognize a song ( many songs ) in the first second.

I started my first Band in 1989 and opened the famous: Legoland in Denmark. And thus my music career began.

3. Who is your favourite artist and why?

I've always adored Whitney Houston for her beautiful voice and I love a lot of American singers.

By the way, I often sang many of W.H.'s songs on stage. My career in Denmark started with: I will always love you.

Dinah Washington is my favorite singer. With Tom Jones I always wanted to sing a duet and of course voices like: Sade or Olete Adams incredibly great.

4. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

Training is part of ANFAN BIS ende, but it also depends on how much you sing every day, but you always have to warm up and stay in training.
