I am still not even halfway, but yes the journey till now was amazing. I got the opportunity to write for various brands like Kingfisher, Big Basket, Nykaa, Radio city, Dainik Jagran, Motivator, One Network, etc.
My personal milestone is the poem I wrote for Brand Big basket, which was read by one of my favorite actors Vijay Raaz.
That copy is close to my heart as it was on farmers, I relived some precious moments of my childhood through that copy.
2. What kinds of skills do you have that make you a good Copywriter?
I love writing poems and Raps, Maybe over the years developed some sense which contributes to the process.
3. What style of Copy do you prefer to write?
One which has some meaning to it, which moves a reader or listener forward.
Mostly a copywriter is not in a position to have his own preference, As brands have their own briefs and targets, whereas, If one is financially stable, he should learn to say no to the campaigns which challenge his own moral values.
He shouldn’t be stubborn to educate himself and accept new things though.
4. When did you decide to be a screenwriter?
For me, Copy-writing leads to screen-writing, as the process includes ideation, conceptualization, and rest, I realized I am already contributing to the visual aspects a bit, it’s just that I am not aware of the grammar.
I tried my hand on it and Guess what, I got some acceptance.
I wrote some of the advertisements, short films and developed web series. I am just starting out in the web and feature format, let’s see how things unfold.
5. How long does it take to you to write a screenplay?
Depends on the format and the deadlines. Surely the process and time will be different for Advertisements, songs, features, and web series.
And also what is been offered to you. Most people come up with ideas, brands come up with briefs. What mostly consumes time is conceptualization and story.
I can only focus on one project at a time, and I certainly believe in Re-drafts to a level.
If we take only screenplay, then I have developed a web series in three months, Screenplay for Advertisements usually in a week, for short films for ten to fifteen minutes the process goes over approximately twenty days to a month.
6. What are the tips that you would provide to the young aspirants in the same field?
Learn, improve and act. I certainly don’t find myself in a position to give gyaan to young blood, but as a word of inspiration, if I have to talk to my young version, who is lost and can’t find his Ikigai, buddy hang on there, just hang on, be a seeker, as I believe, If you are seeking light in the dark tunnel, that light is also seeking you.
