Shubham And Dhruv - Opinions Will Come And Go, But At The End It’s Your Life And You Need To Live It On Your Terms (Digital Creators From India)

Shubham and Dhruv (Funyaasi)

The two engineers turned Funyaasi, Shubham and Dhruv, just graduated from Engineering college, but they have always wanted to do something creative.

They began creating content during their college years. They have been doing it for about 4 years now. Funyaasi first started as a meme page that garnered a lot of support and love from the audience.

But, as the saying goes, "jo dikhta hai wahi bikta hai" is when they decided to change the content from memes to original videos with their faces, they thought it was time to reveal their face and connect directly with the audience.

This is when they faced a lot of lows, such as decreased engagement, more unfollows, etc. However, they refused to give up and carried on uploading content consistently despite the setbacks.

Eventually, their reels went viral, bringing viewers' attention away from memes to the original content and to them as individuals.  Soon, however, they found their mojo again.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Two friends who met in college to pursue engineering but ended up finding their interests in making people laugh and creating content. We ended up bunking classes and sometimes exams to write scripts, shoot videos and basically do what we had genuinely wanted.

Honestly, it’s a miracle we graduated with flying colors. Even after college, we continued creating content. Since then, we have taken a ‘Sanyaas’ from doing anything but what we love and have ‘Fun’ while doing it, which is how we came up with the name for our page ‘Funyaasi’.

Anybody could be a Funyaasi. You just have to love what you’re doing. After years of ups and downs, many trial and errors and some viral videos later, we currently have a family of around 150K funyaasis on Instagram and YouTube, which we affectionately call #FunyaasiFam. They are the best part about our journey.

2. When did you both first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?

We both met through a common friend (Hey Disha!) during a Bollywood spoof making competition and ended up creating a spoof on Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.

The spoof garnered a lot of laughs and praises and landed us on the second spot in the competition.

Since then we both found out that our work styles complement each other, we have the same passion (to bring out our crazy thoughts into visuals through our content) and most importantly, two friends working together in a fun filled environment, what else do you want!

3. Who is your favorite creator and why?

It’s hard to name one creator as we enjoy watching content from so many of them.

Funcho, Mostylsane, Bhuvan Bam, Ashish Chanchalani to name a few. Mainly because all these creators are really passionate about their art, each having a unique style and in general promoting positive vibes which we really connect to.

4. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Our content mainly revolves around relatable comedy, so we are constantly seeking ideas from our surroundings (people, conversations, situations, life instances, etc).

Our embarrassing moments in life inspire us to make videos (Still curling our toes thinking about one)!

5. What does your typical day look like?

Sleep - Eat - Ideate - Shoot - Edit - Upload - Reply to comments - Repeat (putting up stories in between).

6. Which is your favorite book and why?

It has to be ‘The Secret’ by Rhobda Byrne. In this field or any field that you are in, it is important to stay positive, confident, have hopes and be clear minded.

This book has provided us with many insightful and remarkable pieces of advice on all those aspects that we still carry with us while we work towards our goals.

Staying positive and believing in yourself are the most important ones.

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?

JUST START!

If you won’t give it a try then you wouldn’t know how amazingly you can pull it off!

Don’t think about what others will think or say. Opinions will come and go but at the end of the day, it’s your life and you need to live it on your terms doing what truly makes you happy and content.
