When was the last time when you visited the place where you went on vacation? Seems weird right. So does the new tourism trend of India. Nowadays most people are after the resort or the hotel they are staying in.
The destination doesn’t matter and neither does the journey for these people, what matters is the place they will stay at and if the place has an Instagram worthy interior. But this just sums up one side of the term.
The other side is more about exploring the local. Moving forward we will take a look at both theses sides and help you choose the one that calls to you.
The Negative Side:
If one were to see the definition of tourism, it would include always include the word culture or the term cultural exchange. But staycation doesn’t include it. What it includes in the name of the culture is the ‘vibe’ you get from your resort. It is good for the people who can’t travel a long distance.
And they propagate the same habit to their children. Rather than the experience, they provide them with a similar experience. Even if a rebel of this cult manages to make a tour, they do the same thing there.
They will book an amazing resort with an amazing view, a fireplace and an unneeded swimming pool and never go for skiing or horseback ride of Kufri. Due to this, even after making a huge expenditure, the tour seems unsatisfactory and dull, as there is a limit to how many times you can look at the pictures.
People make memories of the resort they stay at rather than the cultural activities. This kind of tourism also leads to a shortage of anecdotes one can share with their close ones
Not only does it have psychological effects, but effects on the specific economy of the region are quite visible as well. A lot of businesses related to outdoor activities have severely reduced and experienced heavy losses as there are fewer and fewer people wanting to do these activities.
Other effects include guides, small vendors selling snacks and knick-knacks on the street side and services like trolleys or camel rides.
From afar inspection it might seem that the overall income of the tourism industry is rising, however, on a closer look, the distribution is found to be messed up. This also becomes a hindrance in spreading the culture of the region.
The Good Part:
If the affair is such a negative one, then why does government promote it and others preach it as the life-saver of tourism? The answer lies in the brighter side of the trend, which is to reconnect with your local surroundings.
What use is knowing in-depth about a city 500 km away from you when you have never been to park 50 meters away. Since during the pandemic there was no mobility of tourists across cities, this was the best we could do for the local hospitality sector.
It has given the local business a fresh boost of confidence. It is also quite feasible and pocket friendly so everyone can take part in the trend. And with work online you don’t have to worry about leaving or having to run for any emergency.
It is especially beneficial for the people who cannot travel long distances or don’t want to be too far from home. It also makes a big contribution to the environment as there is less usage of transportation and is very safe and easy to plan.
So next time even if you are short on money and time, don’t hold yourself back from a break. Or if you do go for an actual vacation don’t turn it into a resort staycation and hold back on making memories.
