Isolated Tribes In Modern Times: The North Sentinelese Tribes

The North Sentinelese tribe is not in Amazon or Africa it is very near to India. It is situated 50kms away from Port Blair in the north. These lives on North Sentinel Island. This tribe doesn’t know about the outside world. Archeologists say there is the last stone age tribe in the world because these people don’t know about agriculture and iron completely. They estimated that this tribe is descendants of the African homo sapiens who migrated to the whole world.

The old scriptures and travelers mentioned the tribes in Andaman Nicobar Islands as Islands of cannibals. Most of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands tribes are made contact with the modern world except North Sentinelese. These people never made any attempt to contact people and they were never allowed from the outside island.

These people always welcomed the outsiders with bows and arrows. From the Britisher's time world made attempts to contact these tribes they always attacked these people. The Indian Govt also tried many times to communicate they failed but they contact a few times between 1991-1997. After that, there is no contact with them. The Indian government also restricted this and did not allow anyone to make contact with them.

North Sentinels people are very violent and they directly attack anyone who comes to their islands. A tourist tried to meet them. They killed him and buried him in the sand. North sentinels are isolated from the world way before they don’t know about agriculture, evidence is there is no deforestation happened in the forest. They don’t about iron also because they always use wooden arrows and bows. Once a ship is stuck near this island North Sentinels attacked the people on the ship but with help of the rescue team, they safely escaped from there.

After that incident, they started to use iron arrows with the help of ships left there. Once two fishermen unknowingly went to this island. They killed them. After that incident, the Indian Govt restricted and not allowed anyone to enter the island within a radius of 5km around the island.

It's better to leave them and not to make any contact with them because they don’t have immunity to various viruses and it is not easy to adjust to the new environment. Once a British officer kidnaps two old sentinels and children from shore. The old sentinels died after four days. The ship captain left children at the shore so they could be safe. The Indian government didn’t ignore them completely they have a policy of eyes on the hand-off. Interestingly these people don’t have any curiosity to explore outside the island.
