One should be true to what they are doing. I do not want to measure it why seeing where one influencer is at today and where the other is, because every influencer has her own style and a different niche and that is why there is no ground to have that competition. Everybody has a different face, a different body, and a style and we should not bet our success on comparing those factors to the others in the same industry.

1. Tell us about your background and journey?

I started as a student of Commerce, continuing same in my college. My focus was Economics. Very soon after this, I changed my line from Commerce to Fashion Styling which I took a degree in from Pearl Academy. I have always had a taste in fashion. I knew I had to do something about it. At that time, I decided to take the traditional route of applying for a good college through Delhi University and then landing at a well-paying job. This approach swayed me away from fashion and that was my only passion.

Not too late, my passion for styling and fashion took over and I started working and exploring different job setups. I worked with few production houses, interned at fashion weeks, and worked for fashion websites.

Alongside, I was also building my blog which was getting a good response. This became sustainable and I decided to leave all internships and jobs I had undertaken. Right after this, I moved to the States which was very struggling in the beginning career-wise. Having to change countries right when things started to feel like it was all falling in place. It was like starting afresh, and first few years were just not so easy. Slowly as time passed, I continued doing what I loved the most and what I was good at, and now, in the end, it has all worked out and I am loving it.

2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

When I was in Pearl Academy, at that time we were supposed to make a blog and post our creative work like a mini portfolio, or you can say a digital diary. For this, we had to create our own page and for me, I had already created one from before which I used to post about my different looks and styles.

I started to mix both these things – looks and portfolio work and this was the start to my page which I like to call as a visual diary. I had already created a page and use to update it from time and again, but Pearl Academy made me consistent, and I learned the value of having a visual diary in today’s time.

3. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

I feel that bloggers are more passionate about writing. Writing about experiences in fashion, lifestyle, travel, anything. Whereas influencers are not inclined towards writing a lot, but for them, it is more of a visual diary. Posting regularly about fashion, lifestyle, photography, making videos, and cinematography and this is how I distinguish between both these terms. An Influencer will not focus on writing every tiny detail and elaborating it but will be focusing on the visuals.

4. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

Once you have built a niche, an audience, and the brands that you relate to, eventually things start falling in place. If you are regular about your work like posting regularly, staying true to your audience, having the audience who are being influenced by you, benefit by your content, and entertained, things go on.

And this is what makes it sustainable. Especially in today’s time where there’s so much growing use of social media, digital channels, and running Instagram ads, that this is becoming more and more sustainable. Once you start building relationships with clients, things become long-term, people start loving your style, and you start sustaining yourself.

5. What do you think influences consumer behavior?

I feel that when the consumers repeatedly see something on your page, that really creates an impactful situation. It creates trust and that’s something that really changes their way of looking at things. Consistency is the key. Consumers should know that we use those products and services in our lives too. Something we use for our benefit and promote the same to the audience, that is what makes the most change and entails that trust.

6. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

My idea of success is: One should be true to what they are doing. I do not want to measure it why seeing where one influencer is at today and where the other is, because every influencer has her own style and a different niche and that is why there is no ground to have that competition.

Everybody has a different face, a different body, and a style and we should not bet our success on comparing those factors to the others in the same industry. I truly do not think that there is an epitome of success here but till the time you are true to yourself, and your audience is loving you and they are being benefitted by you that’s the truest thing. The influence that you hold is the true success and that counts.

7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

By being consistent and by making their niche very clear. One should have a clear agenda about what they want to convey to their audience. So, I think it is about the consistency and the relatability you have with your audience because eventually everything comes down to what relation you have with your followers and that is what the real success is all about.

8. Which is your favorite book and why?

Honestly, I am not into reading novels and other kinds of the book but, I am all about the fashion books and learning more history about the brands and how evolved it is becoming. I am always fascinated by the designer, Tom Ford’s story, and that has really been inspiring.

Apart from this, the story of Chanel is also something I am quite moved by. Its story from the beginning and how it has evolved over time, adapting, and setting trends, truly aspirational. These are the books that fascinates me the most and I like to read about.
