About the Movie

The Bollywood megastar Shahrukh Khan took a substantial break after his appearance in his 2018 film Zero. The biggest surprise of Ayan Mukherjee's Brahmastra was his spectacular cameo as Mohan, leaving the audience yearning for more of SRK on the big screen.

With the release of the much-awaited film Pathaan, a Yash Raj film, SRK is all set to make his comeback. The casting is powerful with stellar actors like Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and Dimple Kapadia.

After the release of its first song Besharam Rang, the film faced criticism from netizens and people began to question the "vulgar" tone of the music video.

Politicians from various parties are arguing over the bold scenes of the song. In the video, Deepika Padukone was also seen sporting "objectionable" attire.

The song “Besharam Rang”

The song "Besharam Rang" is written by Vishal-Shekhar and is brilliantly choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant.

Despite Shilpa Rao’s melodious voice and the amalgamation of Spanish lyrics, the song doesn't have a catchy hook to grab onto. Without any earworm potential, this tune was easily overlooked or forgotten.

Although Deepika and Shah Rukh seem incredibly stunning in the song, Besharam Rang's dance moves and Deepika's attire, which is a saffron-colored bikini are drawing mockery.

These viewers are offended by the song's title, which loosely translates to "shameless color," since they associate it with the saffron outfit Deepika is wearing in the music video.

There have been suggestions to have the song removed from the Pathan movie due to the backlash. Even a written complaint was lodged by an advocate to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

#BoycottPathaan

After Laal Singh Chaddha, Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie Pathan has been the target of online trolls who are urging people to #BoycottPathanMovie.

The president of the Muslim Board, Syed Anas Ali, demanded a boycott of the movie Pathaan and said that "Islam has been propagated incorrectly." Shah Rukh Khan plays the lead role in the movie Pathaan, and the audience adores him. However, we have gotten calls and concerns from people who are upset about the profanity in the movie and the inaccurate way Islam has been presented, according to an India Today report by Syed Anas Alis.

The “Saffron Bikini” debate

The saffron brigade immediately began using as many hateful tactics as they could to call for a boycott of the film Pathan once the song "Besharam Rang" was released.

It appears that some people's religious feelings are being offended by the decision to wear a saffron-colored bikini.

Saffron is a holy color for Hindus, and it is unacceptable for her "objectionable" clothing and scenes with Shahrukh Khan to be displayed in public.

According to Ramdas Athawale, the Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment.

Saffron is not only the hue associated with the BJP or the Shiv Sena; it is also the hue of the clothing worn by Gautam Buddha. It first became associated with peace some 2,500 years ago.

Therefore, it is also an offense against Buddhism. Our party will also protest the movie if the word "besharam" isn't removed.

Such a reference should be deleted because no color is besharam.

Many social media users dredged up an old video of Union Minister Smriti Irani wearing a saffron bikini as part of her runway walk for the Miss India competition to counteract this right-wing discourse.

Political Rage

BJP politicians in Madhya Pradesh, in particular, have a strong public opposition to Pathan. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Girish Gautam both oppose the Pathan movie.

Speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Girish Gautam recommended Shahrukh watch Pathaan with his daughter and explain.

I dare you to make and release a movie like that about the Prophet.

In the name of free speech, there will be violence both domestically and internationally.

This rant was first started by Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Dr. Narottam Mishra. The movie "Pathaan" is flawed and built on a harmful attitude, he had remarked.

We shall decide whether to allow the film's screening in MP or not if the song "Besharam Rang” lyrics and the saffron and green clothing worn in the song are not altered.

The Aftermath of the Controversy

The film received mixed reactions after the release of its first song.

There have been a few alarming demands for violence against movie theaters, but thankfully, these have been few so far. Neither the production company nor the actors involved have responded to this hateful rant in any way.

On the other hand, many individuals have defended the Pathaan movie, Deepika Padukone, and the song labeling the controversy as trivial and pointless.

Amid this controversy, SRK fans have been tweeting about how "India Awaits Pathan." Shah Rukh Khan's supporters also made the hashtag #PathaanFirstDayFirstShow trend on Twitter to support the actor's comeback movie and highlight how secular SRK is in light of the current state of affairs in Bollywood, where other big-budget films aren't receiving positive responses from the public.
