By assuming the G20 presidency, India is heading towards becoming a global south power. So, let’s understand what is G20.
G20 is a group of 20 members consisting of 19 countries and 1 European union including both developed and developing countries. It is a forum for various nations to discuss the global financial problem. Over the years the objective of g20 has been changing from global financial problems to various other problems with progress in globalization like the overall development of nations, counter-terrorism climate change. INDIA assumed its presidency on December 1,2022 from Indonesia. So, how the presidency of G20 is transferred and on what basis?
How Does its Presidency Function?
During the course of the presidency of G20, India will hold 200 meetings overtime on various sectors in various sectors. As a country with democratic values, INDIA can show a conflict can be ended through deliberations and dialogues amidst the RUSSIAN – UKRAINE WAR. G20 theme – VASUDEVA KUTUMBKUM (ONE EARTH, ONE FAMILY, ONE FUTURE). India will work to ensure that there is only one world, not the first world or the second world. It is an opportunity for INDIA to become a global south power.

It draws inspiration from the vibrant colours of India’s national flag – saffron, white and green, and blue. It also highlights the theme of lifestyle for the environment. The lotus signifies hope during such difficult times. Also defining cultural importance, the goddesses of knowledge and prosperity seats on the lotus. With inclusive thinking and knowledge, the world can reach new heights.
G20 Troika and Its Impact
Under troika, the member holding the presidency every year works together with its predecessor and success together called troika. With India assuming the presidency, the troika consists of only developing countries and emerging economies. Indonesia, India, Brazil, this provides a unique opportunity to look at development from the developing countries’ perspective.
India and Its Vision
The G20 comprises of world’s 85% of the world’s GDP and nearly 75% of the world’s economy, it is a golden chance for India to showcase its diplomacy and strong democratic pillars. India focuses on SDG, Women empowerment, and technology’s role in ease of doing business.
The G20 will also be an occasion for India to showcase its vibrant democracy and cultural diversity it would lead to an increase in the interest of delegates to visit India‘s cultural heritage and will also help heritages in telling their stories to the world. With all citizens' support, G20 can become a great start for India in becoming a Global south power.
