Vaibhav Kanwar - Important Qualities of a Successful Entrepreneur are Resilience, Creativity, and Adaptability (Founder of CLAPBOX From India)

I believe that everyone has the potential to succeed, but sometimes we all need a little push or a reminder of our own strengths and abilities. As a motivational speaker, I hope to provide that push and remind people of their own potential.

1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.

CLAPBOX is a musical instrument manufacturing company that specializes in percussion instruments. I started this company back in 2016 when I  was in my second year of college. As a music enthusiast, I noticed a gap in the market for high-quality percussion instruments at an affordable price point. With this vision in mind, I started CLAPBOX to offer customers a wide range of percussion instruments that were both accessible and of premium quality.

Since our inception, we have strived to create innovative and distinctive percussion instruments that stand out in the market. Our company has been recognized as India's No. 1 percussion instruments manufacturing company, and we have acquired lakhs of happy customers throughout the country. We attribute our success to our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Our journey has been filled with many challenges, but we have remained steadfast in our mission to offer exceptional products and services. We have expanded our product offerings to include a variety of percussion instruments, including Cajons, djembes, Kalimbas, Darbukas, Bongos, and more. We have also established a strong online presence to make it easier for customers to purchase our products from anywhere in India

In the future, we plan to continue expanding our product line and offer more innovative percussion instruments. We also aim to expand our customer base and establish a global presence. Our mission is to provide musicians with the best quality instruments at an affordable price and become a leading percussion instruments manufacturing company globally.

2. How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?

The idea for CLAPBOX came about when I was a young college student and an active member of the music society in my college. As a musician, I wanted to buy a Cajon for myself, but I couldn't afford one since they were quite expensive. So, I decided to build one for myself using some readily available materials.

When I brought the Cajon to the next music event, some musicians noticed it and asked me if I could make one for them too since just like me, they couldn’t afford the expensive ones available in the market back then. That's when I realized that there was a huge gap in the market for affordable percussion instruments. I saw an opportunity to provide quality instruments at a lower price point and decided to pursue it.

From there, I began working on building a business model and setting up a production unit. It was not an easy journey, as we faced numerous challenges such as finding the right materials, sourcing skilled labor, and managing finances. But with a lot of hard work and determination, we were able to overcome these obstacles and establish CLAPBOX as a successful percussion instrument manufacturing company.

Today, we have a dedicated team of skilled craftsmen who work diligently to produce high-quality percussion instruments that meet the needs of musicians across India. We continue to innovate and explore new ways to improve our products and services. Overall, our journey has been a challenging yet fulfilling experience, and we are excited to see what the future holds for CLAPBOX.

3. What has been the biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?

One of the biggest challenges that we faced as a company was gaining the trust of music stores to believe in our products and agree to display and sell them.

This was particularly challenging for me since I was only 20 years old at the time and lacked the experience and credibility that some music stores were looking for in a supplier. We found that many stores were hesitant to work with us due to concerns about our ability to meet their demands and give their customers an after-sales service.

To overcome this challenge, we focused on building a reputation for our brand by consistently delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service by leveraging digital channels and building an online brand presence, which allowed us to showcase our products to a wider audience and gain credibility in the market. By using social media, online marketplaces, and our own e-commerce website, we were able to reach customers and establish a strong brand reputation. We made sure that every instrument we manufactured met the highest standards of quality and were confident in the value that our products offered.

As our online brand presence grew, we started receiving inquiries from music stores that were interested in stocking our instruments. Over time, we were able to build a network of offline retailers across India who were eager to work with us and supply our instruments to their customers.

Through this process, we learned the importance of building trust and credibility in the market and the value of persistence and hard work in overcoming challenges. Today, we are proud to be India's leading percussion instrument manufacturing company – and our products are present at music stores in all cities across the country and have a strong E-commerce presence. We continue to focus on delivering high-quality products and exceptional service to our customers.

4. What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?

In my opinion, the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur are resilience, creativity, and adaptability. Resilience is crucial as setbacks and failures are inevitable in business, and it takes determination to push through and keep going. Creativity is essential to come up with innovative solutions to problems and standing out in a crowded market. Lastly, adaptability is important as entrepreneurs need to be able to adjust their strategies and pivot when necessary to stay ahead of the competition and navigate changes in the market.

5. What are your tips for first-time and aspiring entrepreneurs?

As an entrepreneur myself, my tips for first-time and aspiring entrepreneurs would be to-

First, be passionate about your business idea. It is important to identify a problem or a gap in the market that you are truly passionate about solving. This passion will help drive you forward when the going gets tough and will ensure that you remain focused on your goals.

Secondly, continuously learn and adapt. Starting a business is a journey full of unknowns, and it is important to remain flexible and adaptable as you navigate new challenges and opportunities. Be willing to pivot your business model or strategy if necessary, and embrace feedback as a way to learn and grow.

Lastly, surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors and peers. Building a business can be a lonely and isolating experience, but it doesn't have to be. Seek out mentors who can offer advice and guidance based on their own experiences, and surround yourself with peers who can provide support and encouragement along the way. A strong support network can make all the difference in your success as an entrepreneur.

6. What inspires you to become a motivational speaker?

As a young entrepreneur who has gone through a lot of struggles to build a successful company, I have gained valuable insights and experiences that I believe can help and inspire other young entrepreneurs facing similar challenges.

Through my own journey, I have learned the importance of perseverance, determination, and hard work in achieving success. I am inspired to share my story and the lessons I have learned with others to help them overcome their obstacles and achieve their own goals.

I believe that everyone has the potential to succeed, but sometimes we all need a little push or a reminder of our own strengths and abilities. As a motivational speaker, I hope to provide that push and remind people of their own potential.

Moreover, being a motivational speaker is a way for me to give back to the community and help others. I know how difficult it can be to start and grow a business, and I want to use my experiences to motivate and encourage others to pursue their dreams.
