Suchi Interview
"I didn’t even know I could sing until my choir teacher told me I could harmonize on my own — and that moment changed everything for me."
1. Could you introduce yourself and share what led you to music and eventually WiSH?
Hi, I’m Suchi, and I’m 25 years old — the youngest member of WiSH. My full-time job revolves around singing, dancing, and of course, a whole lot of masti!
I actually started dancing before I could even walk. My dad would often shout, “Get off the dining table before you fall!” because I’d be up there dancing! Singing came later. I didn’t even realize I could sing until my choir teacher told me I could harmonize on my own — without any help.
Growing up, I was obsessed with artists like Shakira, Destiny’s Child, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Chris Brown. I’d spend hours watching their videos, dreaming of becoming like them one day. Music has always been a constant source of inspiration for me.
At one point, I was juggling an internship that left me completely burnt out, while still trying to put myself out there creatively. And then, by God’s grace, WiSH happened — they found me on Instagram, and boom! I became part of India’s first girl group in over 22 years.
2. As part of India’s first iPop girl band, what does this milestone mean to you?
Honestly, it feels surreal. Imagine having a job that lets you combine your two biggest passions — singing and dancing. I wouldn’t call myself lucky; I’d call myself blessed.
This industry can be tough and competitive — everyone’s in a race. But having music labels that truly support you and believe in putting Indian pop on the global map means everything to me. This milestone feels like my breakthrough. It genuinely means the world.
3. How does WiSH balance individuality with teamwork when creating music?
It’s honestly amazing because the four of us are so different yet so similar. There’s something that binds us together — and that’s our shared dream.
When it comes to making music, our individuality really shines. I personally love Afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B, and rap, so I often bring in rap flows or dance beat ideas that would fit well in a song. Zo loves pop music and contributes beautiful melodies and English lyrics inspired by her influences. Ri and Sim are brilliant at coming up with catchy hooks and melodies that tie everything together.
Even though our tastes vary, our connection to music is what unites us — it’s what makes WiSH sound like WiSH.
4. What challenges have you faced carving a space as a girl band in a male-dominated industry?
We’ve learned so much along the way — from managing expectations to finding our own voice and style. The ‘girl group’ culture is still quite new in India. For years, audiences have followed K-pop groups, but we felt it was time for India to have its own girl group!
Honestly, it felt like there was a girl group drought here. After we launched, people were so proud and excited — saying, “Finally! India has its own girl group too!” The support we’ve received, especially from young girls, keeps us motivated every single day.
It feels special to represent something fresh and different, and hopefully, we’re paving the way for many more Indian girl groups in the future.
5. Who are your biggest musical inspirations — internationally and in India?
I grew up listening to early 2000s pop and rock icons like Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Backstreet Boys, Shania Twain, and Taylor Swift. But if I had to name one artist who influenced me the most, it would be Shakira.
As a kid, I would copy all her dance moves and perform on my bed every single day! She taught me how powerful and expressive music can be.
In India, my biggest inspiration has always been Sunidhi Chauhan. Her voice, stage presence, power, and aura are absolutely unmatched. I’ve admired her for as long as I can remember — I know all her songs by heart and would try to sing them exactly like her.
6. What role do digital platforms and social media play in WiSH’s journey?
Social media has been everything for WiSH. It helps us connect directly with our audience — not just in India, but across the world. Through it, we share our music, behind-the-scenes moments, and glimpses of our daily lives. That personal connection makes everything feel so real and meaningful.
It’s also allowed us to shape our identity as a group — our vibe, our personalities, our story. The love and support we get online truly motivates us. We’re so grateful to have these platforms to grow alongside our fans.
We recently joined TikTok to connect with our international audience, and the response has been absolutely heartwarming.
7. What impact do you hope WiSH will have on young girls aspiring to enter music?
We really hope WiSH inspires young girls to believe in themselves and chase their dreams fearlessly. We want them to know that it’s absolutely possible to follow their passion, work hard, and still stay true to who they are.
It’s important for us to show that girls can create, perform, and succeed entirely on their own terms. If our journey inspires even one girl to pick up a mic, write a song, or simply believe in her voice — then we’ve done something truly meaningful.
And yes, we can’t wait to see many more Indian girl groups rise and take over the world!
