this film is Based on one of Cooper Karl's short films of the same name, Sightless is a psychological thriller movie that was released in 2020. Cooper Karl directed the movie. We are all familiar with the female main Ellen (Madelaine Petsch) as "Cheryl Blossom," Jason's twin sister from the television series Riverdale.

The protagonist of the tale is a well-known classical violinist who lost her sight after being assaulted on the street as she was walking home from practice at night. After then, fast-forward to the hospital where she is brought back to consciousness after being injured and is given information about her present condition, to which she is oblivious.

Ellen’s brother arranges a caretaker for her who is Clayton (Alexandar Koch) he appears to be a very kind guy helping her to perform everyday tasks and also giving her power to cope with her new reality which she finds very different and difficult.

In her new apartments, Ellen finds things to be very confusing. Many things she hears and listens to don't make sense to her, which makes her fearful and irate. Clayton, though, responds to each of her inquiries in a way that makes complete sense and ties everything together. When Ellen chats with her neighbor, the romance between Ellen and Clayton abruptly ends and the thriller scene begins.

The finest thing about this movie is how they switch between various scenes and settings according to various points of view, which effectively communicates the message to the spectator with the aid of lighting, camera angles, and location.

The sequence when Clayton helps Ellen develop a more accurate mental image of the environment she lives in and guides her in developing that image by her requirements is masterfully rendered. Then, as reality set in, the setting abruptly changed, and we were shown a very cramped environment that essentially resembled a mental hospital ward. Ellen investigates the area and learns about various viewpoints; thus, the viewers will see various images depending on each viewpoint.

Characters

Clayton's role was the most intriguing because it begins with him being portrayed as a handsome, calm young man. However, as the plot progresses, viewers are given a chance to see a different side of him, which is very difficult to process because, earlier, when he played the nice boy, it appeared as though he was empathizing with that character. He had several parts in the film, which the viewer won't fully comprehend until the very end. However, despite being brief, the chemistry between them was very enjoyable to watch.

Ellen portrayed a young lady who had experienced a disastrous relationship, had an injury, and was now frigid and devastated in part. She was always living in terror and attempting to come to grips with the questioned reality she was surrounded by.

Every now and again, Lana, the neighbor who is married to an abusive man, enters the room with Clayton and Ellen. This is when Ellen first experiences reality; at first, it begins when she touches Lana's face and discovers that Lana has scars, which causes uncertainty. From the outset, it was difficult to comprehend Lana's character. However, the audience won't fully comprehend her character or the bizarre behavior that goes along with it until the final scene. Lana was deceived the entire time, thus her character wasn't obvious from the beginning.

But each of the characters properly portrayed their part clearly which helps the viewers understand the movie very easier although some scenes may be complicated due to the huge twist in the story plot.

My View

Although the story's plot was very perplexing, I enjoyed the final scene. Fast-forward to six months later, and Ellen has managed to free herself from Clayton's control. She now performs in front of an audience for a musical production and declines a man's offer of assistance. Although she is still blind, she has changed in terms of her self-confidence and how she perceives the world. The fact that the director chose not to leave the play in a depressing light before concluding pleased me. The moral of this story is very clear: if you have experienced abuse or a tragic event, no matter how severe, you do not have to hide behind a wall; you can pick up where you left off and rebuild your life in any way you choose because, in the end, it is just you and the world.

This show is available on Netflix if you wish to watch it. The movie is for 1 hour 30 minutes.

My Rating 8.5 / 10
