India’s Chandrayaan-3 Creates History

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) finally landed on the lunar south pole region on 23 August 2023 which made India the fourth country to successfully land on the moon. Also, India became the first country to land on the south-polar region of the moon.

Earlier Chandrayaan 2 was sent on 22 July 2019 and was supposed to land on 6 September 2019 and deploy the Pragyan rover but unfortunately, it lost contact with ISRO and crashed on the surface of the moon failing the mission. Then again ISRO sent Chandrayaan 3 on the moon recently which was successful and created history in the world. The Chandrayaan-3 contained a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan.

The main task for the Chandrayaan-3 was to land softly on the moon which was successfully done by Chandrayaan-3 but Chandrayaan-2 got failed due to its crash on the moon’s surface. ISRO initiated the Chandrayaan mission to observe and experiment with the materials available on the lunar surface to understand the composition of the moon.

The rover found that the moon has a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius and it increased to 60 degrees at a height of 20mm. The Chandrayan 3 lander is a six-wheeler of 26 kg which started its mission of collecting information after being landed, it has a period of 14 days to explore the surface of the moon and send the details to Earth.

The 14 days are the most crucial period for ISRO due to the uncertainties and climate change present on the moon which could badly affect the rover and damage it leading to the failure of the Chandrayaan 3 mission.

The First Country to Reach the South Pole

Landing on the moon is an achievement for a country but India registered itself differently in the world by becoming the first country to land on the south pole region of the moon. The lunar south pole is considered to be the most tough part to land. Becoming 1st to land on the south pole India also became 4th country to land on the moon.

Least Cost

The Chandrayaan-3 sent to the moon by India was the least costed moon mission completed by any other country in the world. Luna 25 was the moon mission of the Russian space agency which cost around 1600 crore rupees but it crashed before reaching the moon's surface because the engines did not turn off as it was planned leading to the uncontrolled descent of the lander onto the moon's surface.

On the other hand, the ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission which was made at the least cost amongst all other moon missions of the world cost just rupees 600 crore which was itself a remarkable milestone to achieve. There was also a debate worldwide that India made it to the moon within the budget that Hollywood films make films on space and the moon which even cost more than 600 crores

Luna-25 vs Chandryaan 3

The Russian space agency named Roscosmos also launched its moon mission on 10th August 2023, just nearly after a month India launched its Chandryaan 3 which was launched on 14th July 2023. Both were supposed to reach the moon at their destined time but Luna 25 crashed due to some problem in the engine and the mission was unsuccessful due to that whereas the Chandryaan 3 successfully landed on the toughest part of the moon.

The most noticeable fact to walk through is that the Luna 25 was made at a budget of over 1600 crore rupees whereas the Chandrayaan was made at nearly 40% of its cost i.e. around 600 crore rupees.

But comparing both the missions by the time the Chandrayaan-3 would have taken more time than Luna 25 if it had landed, it was because the Chandrayaan was made at less cost due to which it had to revolve more around the earth which increased time to cut down the cost.

Conclusion

The Chandrayaan-3 mission was a remarkable achievement for the Indian space agency ISRO which created history in the world by becoming the first country to land on the south pole of the moon at the least cost any country has done. Along with this, it was a wonderful thing to reach the moon in the 3rd attempt. India is surely growing itself and its name in the whole world.
