Gaurav Khanna - My Content on TikTok Gained Traction & Many of My Videos Went Viral (Instagram Influencer with 325k followers)

Is being a social media influencer financially sustainable? It depends on content reach, style, and a sprinkle of luck.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born and bred in Delhi and did my schooling at Indraprastha World School (formerly Saviour Convent School) Paschim Vihar, New Delhi. I never obtained good scores and was labeled as a dull student, often targeted and tormented by most teachers. I didn’t want to study due to the teachers’ aggressive behavior. However, my interest in the English language was sparked when I met Naresh sir, my English teacher at a tuition center. His teaching style and love for the subject ignited my passion for excelling in English.

After completing a course at the institute, I started self-studying, mainly using the Oxford Dictionary to gain knowledge. In 2001, I began my career as an English trainer, eventually establishing my own institute, Alf Institute, in 2009, later renamed Motivegroom in 2015. I've trained various individuals, from housewives and businessmen to students, helping them excel in the English language. The transition to online teaching during the COVID period further expanded my reach, attracting a global audience through platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

I believe in staying updated with the current scenario, and Instagram has become an integral part of this digital world. After TikTok was banned, I became more active on Instagram, posting a reel every day. My content revolves around EDUTAINMENT, combining education with entertainment. I aim to make teaching and learning enjoyable rather than burdensome.

3. What’s your idea of success and mantra of life?

Success, for me, is synonymous with being happy and content, regardless of fame or wealth. True success involves attaining spiritual fulfillment alongside material comfort. I emphasize maintaining a balance between spiritual and materialistic aspects of life, with spirituality being the key to eternal happiness.

4. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

Consistency is the key for a content creator. Focus on constant content creation, and quality will naturally improve over time. Patience is crucial, as success doesn't happen overnight. Initial content creation should be driven by passion rather than financial gains. As I always say, "A seed becomes a tree someday but not in one day."

5. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

Financial sustainability as an influencer depends on content reach, style, and luck. Having a side income source is advisable to meet necessary expenses, especially when starting. Patience is crucial, and one should not solely rely on content creation unless consistent brand deals are secured.

6. How would you distinguish the term blogger from influencer?

A blogger traditionally writes articles or blogs on websites, but this is evolving into vlogging as video content gains popularity. An influencer on social media is someone who impacts people positively through skills or ideas, bringing about significant changes in their lives. For instance, a fashion influencer enhances followers' fashion sense.
