Aparna Kaushik – The Woman Behind India’s Most Breathtaking Luxury Homes (Architect & Designer, 249k Followers)

 Aparna Kaushik Interview

“Clarity of purpose and simplicity are the essence of design. I design to accentuate the natural qualities of a space; amplifying its particular beauty through seamless functionality and unique form.”

1. You’re widely admired for blending traditional aesthetics with modern architecture. What inspired you to pursue this creative path?

For me, tradition and modernity aren’t opposites—they're simply different chapters of the same story. I’ve always been drawn to timeless forms, whether it's the symmetry of Greco-Roman architecture, the intricacy of Mughal design, or the elegance of the Renaissance. My work isn’t about replicating these styles but distilling their essence. I reinterpret these classical ideas in a contemporary context—creating spaces that feel rooted yet relevant, soulful yet effortless.

2. Can you share a turning point or project in your career that holds special significance for you?

One of my earliest ultra-luxury homes still holds a special place in my heart. The family gave me complete creative freedom—entrusting me with everything from the architecture to the furniture and landscaping. It was my first opportunity to practice holistic design, where I could shape not just a structure, but an entire way of life. That project cemented my belief in multi-disciplinary design—where every element, every detail, speaks to the next.

3. How do you approach designing spaces that reflect both luxury and functionality?

To me, luxury isn’t about excess—it’s about clarity, comfort, and purpose. I begin by understanding how my clients live—their routines, aspirations, and emotional rhythms. Functionality brings ease; beauty brings resonance. When these elements blend seamlessly, the result is a space that feels intuitive, effortless, and quietly luxurious.

4. What design trends do you see shaping the future of architecture and interiors?

I believe we’re moving towards authenticity. People are craving spaces that are personal, not performative. Expect to see more natural materials, artisanal craftsmanship, and layouts centered around human experience. Sustainability will evolve beyond material choices to encompass emotional and physical well-being—creating environments that nourish us holistically.

5. As a woman entrepreneur in a competitive industry, what challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

Architecture and construction continue to be male-dominated fields. In the beginning, I had to prove my competence not through words, but through consistent, high-quality work. I didn’t let stereotypes dictate my path. Instead, I let my work speak for itself. Over time, excellence earns respect.

6. How do you stay creatively inspired and continue to innovate across projects?

Curiosity is my constant companion. I find inspiration in travel, art, science, and history—but most of all, in the dialogue with each client and site. Every project tells a new story. I approach each one with fresh eyes, open to evolving ideas and new ways of thinking.

7. What message would you like to share with aspiring architects or young women entering the design field?

Stay true to your voice. Don’t chase trends—chase clarity. This profession values depth, resilience, and empathy. Immerse yourself in learning, stay endlessly curious, and let your work be an honest reflection of who you are. And above all, lead with purpose—not ego.
