Mehak Sharma: Bread And Malai: That’s How Physio And Content Fit Together (Lifestyle & Wellness Creator With 304K Followers)

Mehak Sharma Interview

Mehak Sharma, ShadesofMoon

One person told me they were in such a dark place that they wanted to end their life but watching my content gave them a reason to smile again.

1. Let’s start with your journey, what sparked the idea of balancing physiotherapy with content creation, and how has each influenced the other?

Honestly, I didn’t plan any of it like some big strategy. I was studying physiotherapy, Naturopathy & Nutrition (yep, cracking exams, wearing that lab coat, fixing people’s backs) but at the same time, I always had this itch to create, to express myself, share things I love, talk about food, fashion, everyday madness.

So one fine day, I just started posting. No ring light, no tripod, just phone, vibes and jugaad. And slowly people connected. I realised content creation wasn’t just fun, it was freeing.

Physiotherapy taught me discipline and patience (a LOT of it), while content taught me to be spontaneous and real. One keeps me grounded, the other keeps me creative. And honestly, both helped me understand people better, whether I’m treating someone’s posture or making them crave golgappas at 2am hehe 😄

So yeah, I didn’t balance the two on purpose, they just ended up complementing each other, like bread and malai.

2. You’ve built a vibrant space with over 300K followers. What does authenticity mean to you when you're sharing glimpses of your real life online?

For me, authenticity means showing up as Mehak before Shades of Moon.

It’s not always aesthetic plates and cute outfits, sometimes it’s crying over yummy snacks at 1am (REAL lol)  or dealing with log kya kahenge while I chase the wild idea of making reels for a living. I think people connect because I don’t filter out the messy bits.

I share what I actually eat, how I actually feel, and the days when content doesn’t come out perfect and that’s okay. It’s not about curating a perfect life; it’s about creating a real one.

And honestly, if even one person says, “Hey, I felt that too,” then that’s the kind of content I want to keep putting out. Real > perfect, I feel real is perfect always. And also relatable rants + food cravings = full power combo.

3. As a healthcare professional, how do you ensure your content around wellness and lifestyle is both relatable and responsible? Do you think creators who come from a professional background like yours bring a different layer of storytelling to social media?

Definitely! Having a healthcare background keeps me grounded. I don’t just post what’s trending, I share what’s actually safe and sustainable. If I wouldn’t say it to a patient, I won’t say it online.

I try to keep things light and relatable, but backed with sense. Like mixing science with street food, fun bhi, facts bhi. And yes, I do think creators with a professional lens bring more depth. It’s not just content, it’s informed storytelling. I’ll make you eat a protein rich parantha with salad but it will look and sound so much fun that you won’t even realise you made something in minutes that too super healthy and wholesome.

4. The online space can sometimes feel overwhelming. How do you personally deal with the pressure of constant visibility?

Oh, it is overwhelming, no sugarcoating that. Some days I love showing up, and some days I just want to hide under a blanket and not touch my phone.

I’ve realised it’s okay to take a break, not post, not perform. The pressure to “stay relevant” can be loud, but I remind myself that I started this for joy, not for the algorithm.

Also, I keep a solid offline circle. You know real people, real hugs, real reminders that my worth isn’t measured in views. But I’ll be honest, it does take a toll sometimes.

5. You often post mood-boosting content. Have there been any particular messages from your followers that stuck with you?

Yes and honestly, some of them still give me goosebumps.

One person told me they were in such a dark place that they wanted to end their life but watching my content gave them a reason to smile again. Someone else going through a messy divorce said my reels made them laugh on days they thought they couldn’t. I love how a 7 year old and a 70 year old can enjoy my video and I never ever take that for granted.

As a doctor, I’ve seen pain up close. I know how heavy life can feel. That’s why I try, every day to spread a little happiness. Even if it’s just through one reel, one story, one silly joke. If it makes someone feel lighter for even a second… that’s everything to me.

6. In what ways has your work as a physiotherapist shaped your views on beauty, self-worth, or physical and mental wellness?

Being a physiotherapist changed everything for me. It made me realise how much we take our bodies for granted.

We’re out here stressing about being fairer or thinner, but hey excuse me, you’ve got limbs that move, a body that wakes up and carries you through the day. That’s magic. I’ve worked with people who would give anything just to walk again, or lift their arm without pain.

So now, when I think of beauty or wellness, it’s not about how you look, it’s about how you feel, how you function, and how you honour the body you’ve been given. Self-worth starts when you stop chasing perfection and start choosing gratitude.

7. What’s something about you that your followers might be surprised to learn, something that never makes it to Instagram?

People think I’m this confident extrovert who’s always on but catch me at a party and I’m the one awkwardly standing near the snacks (eating it too, shyly lol)

Also, I might look sorted online, but I overthink a LOT, even what to order at cafes. I’m basically a motivational speaker for others and a full-time worrier for myself. 😂

But we move and ‘fake it till you make it’ is our jam with a side of anxiety.

8. Okay, fun one to wrap up, if your feed had a mood playlist, what’s one song that would definitely be on it?

'Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai' because honestly, that’s the vibe. A small dream, a big heart, and the madness to chase it every single day. Specially the line ‘Jo bhi chahu vo mai pau, Zindgi me jeet jau, Chand tare tod lau lalalala!

Not everything has to be flashy, just be consistent, do your job and results will be guaranteed. Mehak Babajee signing off 💛✨
