Rama Murti: It’s Better To Stand Out Than To Blend In (Digital Creator & RJ at Mirchi Plus, 95k)

Rama Murti Interview

Rama Murti

I’m not here to fit in, I’m here to represent, question, and break the stereotypes, one story at a time.

Q. You wear many hats, a digital creator, RJ, and someone proudly breaking stereotypes as a Biharan. How did your journey into media and content creation begin?

Yes that’s true being an RJ I also create content and carry myself as a proud Biharan as it is very important for us to remember our roots which makes us different in this world full of trends. My journey into media and content creation begin during my college days when I got a chance to do a show for DD Bihar as an anchor for a child programme and then in my 2nd year I grabbed a job for Radio Mirchi Patna and became an RJ. Radio Mirchi made me learn about the importance of digital media along with radio, that makes us relevant in these current times .

Q. As an RJ at Mirchi Plus, how do you balance storytelling with entertainment while keeping your content meaningful and relatable?

That’s a really great question. So of course the world of radio is full of new songs , playlists, catchy news etc. but at the same-time storytelling is something that should be kept in mind while delivering content on radio as it is should be fun with responsibility….

The content should have a litmus of local, comedy, emotions or facts that should connect with the audience.

Q.“पशु प्रेमिका” is such a catchy and unique identity! What’s the story or inspiration behind this phrase?

I feel this world is for everyone and humans are trying to take everything in their control which is quite unfair. Since childhood I have felt a deep connect with animals who are pure souls and often exploited by humans for money or food. Few years ago I became a vegetarian when I connected to this feeling even more after witnessing an incident of goat slaughter. Since then I try to reach people through my content to make this world a better place to live for both animals and humans.

Q. Being a creator from Bihar, what kind of stereotypes have you faced and how do you consciously try to break them through your work?

'You don't look like someone from Bihar?' A question that has made me think about how people perceive Biharis as not smart or intellectual. I try to break such stereotypes through my content and how I carry myself, with my fluency and my art .

Q. What role has your regional and cultural background played in shaping your voice as a content creator?

My regional and cultural background has played a significant role in shaping the way I communicate and connect with my audience. Coming from a culturally rich and diverse background, I understand the values, challenges, and mindset of people from similar roots. This allows me to create content that feels relatable, genuine, and emotionally engaging. Whether it’s the language I use, the references I make, or the stories I share, my cultural identity helps build a sense of trust and belonging with my audience. It makes them feel that I truly understand their journey, and that motivates them to engage, learn, and transform with me.

Q. What advice would you give to young creators from small towns who feel they don’t ‘fit’ the mainstream narrative?

My advice to them is simple, don’t try to fit into a narrative that doesn’t represent who you truly are. Instead, focus on creating your own space by staying authentic to your roots, values, and experiences. Your unique background is your strength. Let your content reflect your culture, your struggles, your journey, because that’s what sets you apart. The digital world is evolving, and audiences today crave real, raw, and relatable stories. By embracing your identity and proudly showcasing where you come from, you not only inspire others like you but also bring fresh, original perspectives to the content space. Remember, it’s better to stand out than to blend in.

Q.If you could host a radio show with any historical or fictional character, who would it be, and what would the first episode be about?

If I could host a radio show with anyone, it’d be Gonu Jha — Bihar’s OG witty king!

Our first episode? “Zamana smart hai, par Gonu Jha smarter tha” — where we solve modern problems with desi jugaad, Mithila-style!

RJ vibes + Gonu Jha’s brains = pure Bihar swag on air
