Ruchika Kashelani Interview
“When people use my choreography at weddings and tag me in their performances, it feels like living a little slice of the celebrity life.”
1. What inspired you to start your journey with dance and content creation?
Dance has always been a part of me—I’ve been performing since childhood and even won medals for it. But the real turning point came when I began uploading full tutorials on Instagram, especially for Choreoकक्षा. I realized I wasn’t just choreographing moves; I was creating content that people could learn from and enjoy. That connection with a wider audience through digital platforms inspired me to keep going and build this journey.
2. How has dance shaped your personality and everyday life?
Dance has shaped me both on and off camera. It’s made me more confident, expressive, and emotionally aware. Whether I’m creating content, dealing with pressure, or simply living life, dance has taught me to stay graceful, grounded, and joyful. It’s not just an art form I practice—it’s a way of life for me.
3. What’s your creative process like when planning reels or choreography?
I always begin with the emotion behind the song—whether it’s playful, romantic, or soulful. From there, I design the choreography to reflect that mood, focusing on expressions and storytelling. For reels, I aim to create something scroll-stopping—a hook that makes viewers pause. At the same time, I ensure the steps are simple, creative, and easy to follow. My process is always guided by three pillars: simplicity, creativity, and value.
4. Can you share a milestone or moment that felt truly rewarding in your journey?
One of my biggest milestones was when Choreoकक्षा videos started going viral, and people began calling me “the dance teacher of Instagram.” Seeing others learn my choreography, tag me in their performances, and use my steps at weddings was surreal. Brand collaborations soon followed—something I had only seen celebrities do. I’ve celebrated every milestone, from 5K to 10K to 200K followers. But the most rewarding moments are when people recognize me in public, stop for a chat, and take pictures—it truly feels like a little slice of the celebrity life, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.
5. How do you handle pressure, comparison, or creative blocks on social media?
Social media can be overwhelming, and there are days I feel stuck or start comparing myself to others. When that happens, I take a step back to recharge and remind myself why I started—sometimes that means dancing just for myself or taking a short break from the screen. My family, especially my mom, is a huge source of support. She calls me almost daily, asking, “Did you shoot? What are you uploading today? What’s next?” She gives honest feedback and even helps me plan content. That constant encouragement keeps me grounded and helps me create from a place of joy rather than pressure.
6. What role has your audience played in motivating you to keep going?
My audience has been instrumental in motivating me. I often receive messages like, “Hi, we performed your choreography—it was a hit!” Their appreciation for my work, from the choreography to the expressions and the ease of learning, truly makes my day. They’re not just followers; they’re part of this journey with me. Their love and support push me to keep going and keep growing.
7. What advice would you give to young creators or dancers starting out today?
Start small, but be consistent. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, team, or setup—begin with what you have and focus on improving with each post. Stay original, true to your style, and never let numbers define your worth. Most importantly, enjoy the process—when your heart is in it, your audience will feel it too.
