Vaibhav Malik Interview
"I turned a ₹900 dream into a movement — because the joy of cycling is worth more than any engine on the road."
1. Your journey with fitness and cycling has inspired many. How did it all begin for you?
I’ve loved cycling since childhood. I got my first cycle in Class 8, but by the time I reached Class 10, all my friends had stopped cycling. Eventually, I had to transition from a bicycle to a car.
Things changed during my college days when I attended Raahgiri, an event where bicycles were provided to ride. The queues were huge, and I decided I wanted my own. I didn’t have much money, so I took ₹900 from my pocket money, bought a bicycle frame, and built my own cycle from scratch.
2. What challenges did you face in breaking stereotypes around body image and fitness, and how did you stay motivated?
Even today, people tell me to “get a bike instead of a bicycle.” There’s still a stereotype in society that an engine-based vehicle is better than an effort-based one. But I’ve learned to listen to myself and follow what I believe in, regardless of what others say.
3. Tell us about a turning point or achievement that meant a lot to you personally.
A major turning point was when I moved from learning skills on YouTube to actually teaching those skills to others. That transition was very special for me.
4. What’s a typical day in your life like, and how do you stay consistent with your routine?
These days, my weekdays are mostly shoot days. I spend time filming content, and the rest of my time goes into editing reels or doing laptop and phone-based work. Staying consistent is about treating it like a full-time job — with discipline and planning.
5. What message do you want to spread through your journey and content?
I want to inspire more people to get into fitness and cycling. Cycling gives you a sense of freedom that no other means of transport can offer.
6. How do you deal with negativity or criticism on social media?
I actually take criticism positively. I try to identify my weak points and work on them until they become my strengths.
7. One tip you’d give to someone who wants to start their own fitness journey but feels hesitant?
Forget all the doubts and distractions. Focus on what you want to achieve and show to the world — and most importantly, don’t quit.
