Raman Yadav: I Make My Audience Laugh, Cry, or Think (Actor, 1.2 Million Followers)

Raman Yadav Interview

Raman Yadav

An influencer shares themselves with their audience while an actor disappears into the role

Q. Your bio says, 'I am an actor, not an influencer.' In a digital world where the lines between the two are blurred, what does being an actor truly mean to you?

Being an actor means immersing myself in characters be it good, flawed, or complex.

My job is to tell stories with honesty, not shape how someone should live. An influencer shares themselves with their audience while an actor disappears into the role. So when I say I'm an actor, not an influencer, I'm honouring the craft.

Q. When you strip away the followers, the views, and the applause, who is Raman Yadav when no one is watching?

I am just an ordinary guy who likes to be with his friends, travel, read, and consume art while also letting it consume me.

Q. You portray emotions that feel lived-in, not performed. Do you borrow from memory, imagination, or observation when constructing a moment?

First of all, I am very grateful for all the love and support. And yes, it’s a mix of all three, sometimes it is an anecdote from the life, sometimes an observation, and sometimes just imagination.

Q. Short-form storytelling often demands ruthless precision. How do you decide what to leave out to make an emotion land harder?

With the reducing time span of the social media audience, whatever drags the script needs to be eliminated.

Q. Is there a character you’ve played that revealed something about yourself that you didn’t know before?

I am still waiting for that ‘ONE’.

Q. When creating, do you think from the lens of a performer, a director, a writer or all at once?

Yes, there’s no other option. Also, add editor to the list.

Q. What’s a creative risk you’ve taken that changed your trajectory, even if people didn’t notice it openly?

I am just 25 and carried a moustache look to play the role of a Husband. I’m more than grateful that my audience accepted and appreciated it.

Q. What’s one story you feel social media hasn’t allowed you to tell yet, but lives inside you waiting for the right medium?

Well, let’s keep it a secret.

Q. What is the most difficult emotion for you to portray realistically, not because you can’t act it, but because it touches you personally?

I guess I am not there yet.

Q. What does craft mean to you in an era where many creators chase trends over true artistic work?

It means everything to me. If someone is dedicating their time watching my content, I would make sure it eithers make them laugh, cry, or think.

Q. Was there a point in your journey when you felt misunderstood as an artist? How did you deal with that internally?

I’ve been called out for overacting sometimes but then the same people appreciated me for listening to them and implying it.

Q. If you could play any fictional character from books, movies, or web series, who would it be and why?

Robert Di Niro’s character from the movie, Taxi Driver.
