Innah Bee Interview
“How a pandemic leap of faith turned a lifelong dancer into a global K-pop cover icon.”
Q. What moment pushed you from engineering into full-time dance and content creation?
The real turning point came during the pandemic. While working as a civil engineer, I often felt lost, like life was moving around me, but I wasn’t truly moving forward. I reached a point where I knew something had to change. I decided to take a risk and leave my engineering job, and I started teaching at our family’s Joeval Dance Studio to support myself.Around the same time, I began uploading dance videos purely for fun. Creating them made me genuinely happy, without any expectations attached. Then one of those videos unexpectedly went viral. That moment opened a door I never imagined would lead this far. Looking back, I feel incredibly grateful for how everything unfolded and for the support that helped me take that leap.
Q. How did gymnastics, dance sports, and Filipino culture shape your style?
I’m really thankful my parents encouraged me to try different classes when I was younger. Gymnastics, dance sports, and exposure to Philippine culture played a huge role in shaping how I move and perform today. That early training made me adaptable and versatile as a dancer. In K-pop, choreography often blends many styles in one routine, and being able to switch seamlessly between them is a big advantage.I think Philippine culture also taught me to perform with grace and ease, which naturally influences how I carry myself on stage and on camera. All of those elements come together now in ways I didn’t fully understand back then, but I’m very grateful for them today.
Q. You handle everything from styling to editing. Why is creative control important to you?
Creating dance covers can be challenging, but it’s something I truly enjoy. Even as a child, I remember putting a towel on my head as a wig and using blankets as costumes while dancing in front of the mirror. I already knew I wanted to perform, and I was always drawn to fashion, editing, and entertainment. Today, I’m thankful that I get to combine all of those interests. I do my own makeup, style my hair, sew my outfits, set up lighting, and edit my videos.Of course, I wouldn’t be able to do all of this without the constant support of my family. I think this level of involvement resonates with people because everyone has a dream they’re working toward. Through my videos, viewers can see the effort, patience, and belief it takes to pursue something you love. Being able to turn my passion for dance and K-pop into a career is something I’m deeply grateful for.
Q. How do you handle pressure and avoid burnout while creating for a global audience?
There are definitely days when I feel tired and overwhelmed. Creating content seen by people all over the world comes with pressure, especially with how fast things move online. What helps me is gratitude. I remind myself how thankful I am to do what I love.I try to appreciate both the small and big moments of being a content creator. The support and belief from the people who follow my work motivate me far more than they pressure me. At the end of the day, dancing is still my source of joy, and I make sure I protect that feeling.
Q. Which recognition has meant the most, and how has it shaped your next steps?
Being noticed by K-pop idols has meant a lot to me. It’s something many K-pop cover dancers quietly hope for, and experiencing it gave me a real sense of accomplishment. That recognition encouraged me to challenge myself creatively and raise the level of my work. Because of it, I’ve started exploring beyond K-pop and dancing to music from artists around the world. It’s helped me grow while staying true to where I started.
