Ansh Bhardwaaj Interview
“If people laugh today and feel something by the end, I know the story worked.”
Q. If someone watches your content without knowing you, what story do they see, and what side stays off camera?
They’d probably think my life is just full of funny incidents and that I’m always joking around. Most people would see me as “that funny guy.”But there’s a side I haven’t really shown yet. I’m genuinely into books, sports, and maintaining a good lifestyle. That part of me doesn’t come on camera much, but it’s something I do want to share with my audience in the future.
Q. Your sketches feel extremely relatable. How do you spot moments that can turn into comedy?
Observation is everything for me. I notice even the smallest things, whether it’s something happening at home or around me. I closely observe how people talk, react, and behave in everyday situations.More than focusing on just making reels, I put a lot of effort into dialogues. Titles might look relatable like everyone else’s, but when you watch the video, the dialogues are what make it feel real. That’s where the humour actually comes from.
Q. Your characters feel very real. How much of them comes from real life versus exaggeration?
All of my characters are directly inspired by real people. Teachers, aunties, my mom, my dad, his friends, they’re all taken from real life.I don’t believe exaggeration automatically makes content funnier. In fact, I think simpler videos with relatable dialogues connect more deeply. When people see themselves in the character, they stay engaged and watch till the end.
Q. Moving from reels to longer videos, what changed in your writing process?
After creating more than 700 short videos, I realised there are many scenes you just can’t show in shorts. Some stories need time.Even in my reels, I always make sure there’s a complete story with a proper ending. I want the viewer to feel satisfied. In long-form content, the approach is the same, just deeper.
I always chase emotions first. I want people to feel nostalgia while watching my videos and enjoy the humour along the way. Recently, I uploaded a long video on friendship. It was funny throughout, but by the end, many people felt emotional and even cried. That’s exactly what I aim for.
Q. When a video doesn’t perform well, how do you reset without losing confidence?
After every upload, I go through the comments, shares, and insights carefully. If a video goes viral, I try to understand why. If it doesn’t, I look at what was missing. Most of the time, the comments tell me everything I need to know. That feedback helps me improve. So I grab a coffee, go for a short run, reset my mind, and get back to work.
What really keeps me going is when people say, “We wait for Ansh Bhardwaaj’s videos.” That line means everything to me.
Views don’t matter to me anymore. What matters is how people feel. Whether it’s a million people or even one person feeling that relatability or nostalgia, that connection means a lot.
