Bhoomika: I Started-Because I Genuinely Enjoy Making Food and Creating Videos (Food Vlogger, 33K Followers)

Bhoomika Interview

BHOOMIKA

One of the purest ways to show love is through food

Q. What inspired you to start khanawithlove, and what was the first post that made you feel “this could be something big”?

I knew two things about myself: I love food, and I love making videos.

My love for creating videos pushed me to start an Instagram page. There was no plan behind it-I simply followed my heart and posted my first video. At that time in my life, I really needed something that felt like my own, something meaningful to fill my time. I wanted a creative outlet where I could pour my energy and thoughts. My very first reel was a smoothie bowl I had made for myself. I was really into baking and creating aesthetic breakfasts because it made me happy. I wasn’t trying to build a brand or gain followers. Unlike many people who carefully plan their content in advance, I didn’t strategize at all. I simply clicked “Post.”

I never imagined that this small, spontaneous decision would eventually lead to 30,000 people following my journey.

The moment it started feeling real was when one of my salad videos unexpectedly went viral. It was a simple recipe-nothing overly fancy-but today it has over 6 million views. I remember watching the numbers grow and feeling a mix of disbelief and gratitude. That one video helped me reach 10K followers, and that’s when it hit me: maybe this isn’t just random anymore. Maybe this could actually become something meaningful.

Q. Your username “Khanawithlove” is beautiful and emotional-what does “with love” represent in your food journey?

Honestly, I didn’t overthink the name when I started. “Khanawithlove” just came to me naturally, and I went with it. There wasn’t a long brainstorming process behind it. But the meaning behind it feels very true to me. I genuinely believe that one of the purest ways to show love is through food. Food has this incredible power-it brings people together, changes your mood in seconds, and creates memories without you even realizing it.

A simple meal can comfort you, celebrate you, or silently say, “I care about you.” That feeling is what “with love” represents for me.

Q. Your bio says “Mostly food. Occasionally feelings.” How do emotions influence the way you present food?

When I wrote that bio, I meant it very simply. I knew I would mostly be posting food, but I also wanted the freedom to share small glimpses of my life sometimes-whether that’s a workout video, a fit check, or something personal. So while food is the main focus, I like leaving a little space for those occasional feelings and moments too.

Q. Do you see food as just content, or as a way of storytelling and expressing yourself?

For me, it’s mostly about sharing recipes and ideas in a simple, practical way. My page isn’t heavily focused on storytelling-it’s more about making food approachable and enjoyable for anyone watching. But at the same time, I think the kind of food I choose to make and share naturally reflects who I am. Whether it’s comfort food, healthy meals, or quick recipes, they often mirror what I’m personally enjoying at that moment.

So even though I don’t consciously use food as storytelling, it still ends up expressing parts of me in a quiet, everyday way.

Q. What goes into creating one perfect food reel- from choosing the recipe to posting it?

My process has definitely evolved over time. It usually starts with deciding what I genuinely feel like making. Sometimes it’s something I grew up eating, something my mom makes, or a recipe I’ve seen online and loved. I mostly create food that I personally enjoy. I write everything down in a notebook-the ingredients and the method-so I don’t miss anything while shooting. It helps make the whole process smoother.

The next day, I make sure I have all the ingredients ready, set up my camera, and start shooting.

After that comes editing. I do basic color adjustments on my phone (which I’m still learning!) and then structure the video properly, making sure it has a good hook, clear steps, and a simple ending. I record the voiceover-which sometimes takes a few tries-and once everything feels right, I upload it.

Q. What has been the biggest challenge as a food creator, and how did you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges for me has been learning how to “switch off.” When you’re a creator, it often feels like your mind is always in content mode. Even when you’re out somewhere or simply living your life, there’s this constant thought of capturing something or turning it into a reel. Another challenge has been dealing with the unpredictability of social media. After experiencing a viral video, it’s easy to start measuring yourself through views and numbers. Some days you put in a lot of effort, but the response isn’t what you expected, and that can be discouraging.

I’m still learning how to manage both. I try to remind myself why I started-because I genuinely enjoy making food and creating videos. Taking small breaks, not overanalyzing numbers, and focusing on the process rather than just the performance is something I’m actively trying to get better at.

Q. Do you think your relationship with food reflects your emotional journey as a person? Has creating khanawithlove helped you understand yourself beyond just being a creator?

Yes, khanawithlove has changed me as a person-big time. I’m naturally very introverted. In social settings, I’m usually the one quietly standing in a corner. I’ve always been camera-shy and slightly awkward, and putting myself out there never came easily to me.

But when I look at myself now, I realize how far I’ve come. I’m creating videos regularly and showing up on camera, and that’s a big deal for me. I still struggle sometimes, but the fact that I’m doing it at all shows how much I’ve grown. Through this page, I’ve connected with people I probably never would have otherwise. I’ve made friends, had meaningful conversations, and learned to express myself more openly. It has helped me grow mentally and emotionally in ways I never expected.

I honestly feel like I’m not the same person I was two years ago. And if my 16-year-old self could see me today, I think she’d be proud, and that means everything to me.

Q. Has there ever been a moment where creating content healed a part of you that people don’t see?

Yes, definitely. After graduating as an Architect, I went through a phase where I felt a little lost. It was a time of uncertainty, and I didn’t fully realize how much I needed something that truly felt like my own.

Starting this page gave me exactly that. It gave me a sense of purpose and something to wake up excited about. It helped me discover strengths I didn’t know I had and opened doors I never expected. In many ways, it quietly healed a part of me-not dramatically, but by giving me direction and reminding me that growth doesn’t always look the way we originally planned it.

Q. Behind the aesthetic food and beautiful posts, who is Bhoomika when the camera is off?

Off camera, I’m honestly just a big-time homebody. I love being at home, cooking (mostly for myself), rewatching comfort shows, and keeping life simple. I enjoy going to the gym and working out-it helps clear my mind and keeps me grounded.

I’m very introverted and slightly awkward when it comes to meeting new people-the kind of person who might need 20 minutes to mentally prepare before stepping out.

At the end of the day, I’m just someone who is still figuring things out, one step at a time.
