Jaspreet Kaur: From Lockdown Creator to Aspiring Actor, I Found My Confidence Online (Content Creator, With 498k+ Follower)

Jaspreet Kaur Interview

“You can choose what to focus on—love or hate. And I’ve always chosen the positive.”

1. What inspired you to start your journey in both content creation and acting?

Content creation started very organically for me. I’ve always loved hairstyling—even as a child, it felt like a form of creative expression. I was naturally more drawn to hair than makeup. Whether it was braiding or curling my hair, I enjoyed experimenting and creating different looks.

Whenever I styled my hair and stepped out, people around me—especially relatives and neighbors—would notice and ask if I had done it myself. They would often say they paid money at salons for similar styles, which really boosted my confidence. Their appreciation made me realize that this was something I was genuinely good at.

During the lockdown, like many others, I was exploring ways to stay productive and positive. My mother suggested that since I was good at hairstyling (and had started learning makeup too), I should share my work online. I posted my first video, and despite having acne at the time, the response was overwhelmingly positive. People appreciated my skills and even requested tutorials. That encouragement pushed me to keep creating and listening to my audience. Over time, I found my space on the internet, and I’m truly grateful for the acceptance I received.

As for acting, it has been a dream since my school days. Whenever we were asked what we wanted to become, I would often say I wanted to be an actress. Acting, for me, is another way of expressing emotions and connecting with people. Even today, people around me say I’m very expressive, and I think that naturally draws me toward acting.

2. Among hair, skin, and makeup content, which excites you the most to create and why?

Hairstyling excites me the most. It’s something I feel completely confident experimenting with. I love trying new styles and expressing myself creatively through my hair. Even if the look is unconventional, I carry it with confidence because it represents my individuality.

That said, I also enjoy makeup—especially eye makeup. It allows me to play with colors, textures, and creative elements like stickers or 3D designs. There’s so much you can do with it.

However, if I’m short on time and need to get ready for an event, I’ll always prioritize my hairstyle. It has become my niche, and people associate me with well-styled hair—whether it’s blowouts, curls, or spirals. So naturally, I put more focus on that.

3. How do you prepare yourself before auditions or shoots to bring out your best?

I wouldn’t call myself an expert yet, but I can definitely share what works for me.

The key is to understand the character rather than memorizing lines. Focus on the essence—who the character is, their age, background, lifestyle, and personality. For example, if you’re playing a 15-year-old village girl, your body language, behavior, and reactions should reflect her environment and experiences.

Similarly, if it’s a modern working professional, you need to adapt your mindset and physicality accordingly. Observation plays a huge role here. Watch people around you who resemble the character—study their mannerisms, reactions, and communication style.

Once you’ve observed, practice in front of a mirror. Work on your body language, speech, and emotional connection. It’s important to let go of your own identity and step fully into the character—both mentally and physically. That’s when the performance starts to feel real.

4. Social media comes with both love and criticism—how do you manage that balance?

That’s absolutely true—social media brings both love and criticism at the same time. But ultimately, you have the choice of what you focus on.

I’ve learned not to give attention to negativity. The moment you start overthinking criticism, it becomes difficult to move forward. Ignoring it is both the first and the most important step.

When I started, I had acne and wasn’t very confident with makeup. In my first video, I didn’t hide my skin, and while many people appreciated my confidence, others criticized it. Similarly, some people supported my use of affordable products, while others judged me for not using branded ones.

But that’s the reality—people will always have different opinions. You can’t control that. What you can control is your perspective. I chose to focus on the positive feedback and the people who supported my journey.

Consistency is also important. No matter how I feel or how my skin looks, I show up. That discipline has helped me grow, and I believe it’s essential for anyone in this space.

5. If you had to pick between acting and content creation as a full-time career, which would you choose?

I truly love what I do, but if I had to choose, I would pick acting.

Content creation requires you to manage everything on your own—from brand deals and scripting to शूट planning, arranging props, coordinating with videographers and editors, and handling approvals. It’s a lot of responsibility.

In acting, while the work is equally challenging, your primary focus is performance. There’s a team to support you—makeup artists, stylists, directors—so you can concentrate on your craft. I also love the collaborative environment on set, where you’re surrounded by people and can enjoy the process together.

That said, I started content creation out of necessity—it helped me financially and gave me a better life. For that, I’ll always be grateful.

6. Outside of work, what hobbies or passions bring you the most joy?

Lately, cooking has become something I genuinely enjoy—especially since moving to Mumbai and managing everything on my own.

It might seem like a routine task, but it’s actually very fulfilling. From selecting a recipe to ordering ingredients, preparing everything, and finally cooking—it’s a complete process. There’s always a bit of uncertainty about how the dish will turn out, which makes it even more exciting.

The best moment is when you taste the final result and realize it turned out well. That small sense of achievement brings me so much joy. Even when it’s not perfect, I’ve learned to accept it and enjoy the effort.

I usually cook simple dishes like bhindi sabzi or gobi paratha, but the happiness they bring is unmatched. Cooking has become my way of unwinding—it helps me relax, disconnect, and find peace.

7. And lastly, if you had the power to instantly star in a remake of any Bollywood classic, which movie would you choose and why?

I would definitely choose to play Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

It’s such an iconic character—her style, confidence, attitude, and dialogue delivery are unforgettable. Everything about Poo, from her outfits to her personality, has become a cultural phenomenon.

At the same time, I’d be nervous because Kareena Kapoor made the role legendary. For most of us, Poo is Kareena, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else in that role.

But still, I’d love to take on the challenge—if not for the role, then at least for her wardrobe! Her looks in the film, especially the “Bole Chudiyan” outfit, are absolutely iconic. It’s a character that continues to be loved across generations, and being part of that legacy would be incredible.
