Singh Sisters Interview
Q. You’ve helped 8000+ clients plan their trips-what inspired you to turn travel planning into a full-fledged service rather than just content creation?
It began with a single reel going viral. Amrit was in Goa and shared a stay-a ₹1500 per night 1BHK with a private pool. The response was immediate and overwhelming. Within hours, our inbox was flooded with the same three questions: Where should we stay? What should we do? Where should we eat?
We spent the next seven days responding to messages manually. That experience revealed a key insight-people don’t lack travel content; they lack clarity. While many had saved countless posts and ideas, very few knew how to translate that into a structured, well-planned trip. Instead of continuing to respond individually, we created a simple four-day Goa itinerary. It included curated stays, recommended restaurants, and a day-wise plan with integrated Google Maps links.
We decided to price it-and it sold almost instantly. That was the turning point. We were no longer just creating content; we were solving a real, practical problem in travel planning. And that’s how DIYtinerary was born.
Q. Today, travel content is everywhere-what do you think most travellers still get wrong while planning their trips?
One of the most common misconceptions is that more information leads to better planning. Travellers today save reels, browse multiple websites, and watch endless videos. However, this information rarely answers practical questions-what to do on each day, what to skip, where to stay, or how to move efficiently between places. The real issue lies in sequencing. Most travellers don’t consider critical factors such as location of their stay, travel distances between attractions, and what can realistically be covered in a single day. As a result, they often waste time, energy, and money without realizing it.
Trips don’t become expensive because destinations are costly-they become expensive due to poor planning decisions, such as choosing the wrong stay, inefficient routing, last-minute bookings, and unnecessary travel.
Q. Your brand focuses on “smarter, calmer, better trips”-what does that actually mean in practice when you’re designing an itinerary?
For us, this philosophy translates into three key principles: Smarter means every decision has intent. We don’t just list places; we design each day thoughtfully, considering distance, timing, and the traveller’s energy levels. Calmer means eliminating chaos. Travel shouldn’t feel rushed or overwhelming. We avoid overpacking itineraries and unnecessary movement, ensuring a smooth and realistic pace. Better means personalization. A couple, a family, and a solo traveller should not follow the same plan. Every itinerary is tailored to the traveller’s budget, comfort level, and priorities. When these three elements come together, the trip flows naturally-and people are able to truly enjoy the experience.
Q. Handling so many clients must come with diverse expectations-how do you personalize itineraries while still maintaining efficiency?
We have built a structured process, but the thinking behind every itinerary remains highly personalized. Efficiency, for us, does not mean standardization-it comes from clarity on what truly matters. We begin with key inputs such as budget, travel dates, pace (fast or slow), travel companions, and personal preferences. Based on these factors, we design the itinerary. Even if two travellers are visiting the same destination, their plans will differ because their priorities and constraints are different. Our experience enables us to work efficiently, but every decision we make is tailored specifically to the individual traveller.
Q. Social media often glamorizes travel-how do you balance showing aspirational content while setting realistic expectations for your clients?
We believe travel should be aspirational, but never misleading. While we do showcase beautiful destinations, we also focus on sharing practical insights-realistic budgets, common planning mistakes, timing considerations, and what is actually feasible within a trip. A trip that looks perfect online can quickly fall apart if it isn’t planned properly.
We don’t aim to sell the idea of “perfect trips.” Instead, we focus on showing what it truly takes to make a trip work. This honesty not only builds trust but also empowers travellers to make better, more informed decisions.
Q. Walk us through a typical day in your life-what goes on behind the scenes of running a travel planning business?
A large part of our day is dedicated to thinking through travel plans in detail. This involves designing routes, reviewing accommodations, assessing the practicality of itineraries, and refining plans based on client feedback. Alongside this, we are constantly communicating with clients-helping them evaluate options, answering queries, and guiding their decisions.
There is also a strong focus on the business side-improving our offerings, understanding common traveller challenges, and creating content that genuinely adds value. While the work may not always appear glamorous, it is highly hands-on-and that is precisely what allows us to stay closely connected to what travellers truly need.
Q. For someone who wants to start traveling more but feels overwhelmed what’s your one practical piece of advice to just get started?
The key is to stop trying to plan everything at once. Start by making just one decision-your budget, your travel dates, or the kind of trip you want. Most people feel overwhelmed because they attempt to solve multiple variables simultaneously. However, clarity emerges step by step.
Once one element is fixed, the rest of the planning process becomes significantly easier. You don’t need a perfect plan to begin-you simply need a clear starting point.
