Tanvi Karekar: I Didn’t Let The World Decide How I Should Think (Creator - Lifestyle, Modern Life, 344K Followers)

"I think my content became more vocal once I started questioning things instead of accepting them as normal."

Q. For people discovering you for the first time, how would you describe yourself beyond being a dancer and creator?

I think I’m someone who feels things very deeply and expresses them honestly through my content. I started expressing through Dance, now I do it through conversations, and sometimes through fun little reels with my mom.

Beyond content creation, I’m just a curly haired girl trying to unlearn a lot of conditioning and make people feel seen through whatever I create.

I don’t want people to watch my content and feel like I have it all figured out. I’d rather they feel like, “Okay, this person is figuring life out just like me.”

Q. What emotion do you love expressing the most through your content?

Curiosity, honestly.

A lot of my content comes from questioning things we’ve accepted for so long without even realizing it.

And I think the content that connects the most is when people feel understood. Whether it’s feminism, relationships, insecurities, humour, or just everyday lifestyle. I love expressing emotions that people usually keep to themselves.

Q. Your content carries strong feminist energy — was there a personal experience that shaped that voice?

Honestly, a lot of small experiences shaped it more than one big moment.

Growing up, I noticed how casually women are expected to adjust in families, relationships, careers, even in the way they speak or take up space. And the scary part is that most of us don’t even realize we’re being conditioned while it’s happening.

I think my content became more vocal once I started questioning things instead of accepting them as “normal.” Also, watching the women around me especially mothers carry emotional and physical labour so quietly definitely impacted me deeply.

But I never want feminism in my content to feel preachy. I want it to feel human, relatable, sometimes funny, sometimes uncomfortable… because that’s how real conversations happen.

Q. You share a beautiful bond with your mother online. What’s the biggest lesson she has taught you?

I think the biggest lesson my mom has taught me is to question things instead of just accepting them because “that’s how it’s always been.”

She’s someone who has always taken a stand for herself, for her children, and for a better future for our family even when it wasn’t easy. Growing up, I watched her make difficult choices, speak up when needed, and challenge things that didn’t feel fair. And I think that shaped me a lot as a person and creator.

At the same time, she’s also incredibly warm and emotional, which is why our bond connects with so many people online. It never feels performative because that’s genuinely how we are with each other in real life.

Q. What would your younger self be most proud of about you today?

I think younger Tanvi would be most proud that I didn’t let the world decide how I should think.

Growing up, it’s very easy to get influenced by what everyone around you believes is “normal”, especially as a woman. But I think she’d be happy to see that I’ve developed my own thoughts, opinions, and way of looking at life instead of just blindly accepting things.

She’d also probably be very emotional, seeing that the things that once made her feel different, being expressive, emotional, opinionated, even having curly hair, eventually became the things people connected with the most.
