I am a hotel management graduate. After working in Hotel Industry moved on to work in Asset Management and worked in corporate life until two years ago. After university days I did modelling and did many ramp shows in India and overseas and even participated in Miss India.
2. What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?
Corporate life took most of my time. I just did not have any time after tending to my demanding work life, children and home. So when my children reached teens, I consciously took a decision of taking a sabbatical, as I personally feel that teenagers need their parents during this phase.
While this decision was being made the desi in me which was sitting under the weight of corporate responsibility just woke up. And being an expat it was another awakening, everywhere you would see Indians wearing non desi clothes to flaunt their modern attitude. I would see Indian youngsters being very confident in Jeans than in Salwar.
Saree which is the oldest garment of the world and we Indians should take pride in owning it, is far away from our young generation. My being on insta is to reach the millenials and show them that saree is more fun and adventurous garment.
One garment which can be styled in different ways, from a traditional drape to a skirt drape to a pant drape to a gown drape and you can ho on and on. And Desi fashion is more happening and stylish than any other fashion. My Insta handle @desibychoice means that I dress in desi fashion not for festivals or for theme parties, but I am in desi attire with my choice. I AM DESI BY CHOICE.
3. How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
Blogger can put their views thru the website or any other platform on any subject, whereas an influencer uses an online platform and impacts the lives and decisions of its followers. Some bloggers can be influencers as well.
4. Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?
I came on insta with a purpose. The purpose is to share my love for desi fashion and show the millenials that draping saree is not a cumbersome work. And wearing kurta without salwar is also acceptable. It's just the mind set that we have taken trousers to be more comfortable than our salwar.

I want more and more people to have desi clothes in their wardrobe and they should not hesitate in wearing salwar, or saree. Yes desi fashion can be chic and happening.
5. What do you think influences consumer behavior?
Consumer is very smart. Visuals always speak louder than words. Being an influencer you have to ensure that your pictures does more talking and that talking is consistent and there is continuity in it. It does reach the consumer.

7. How can someone become a successful social media influencer?
You can only influence or touch others if you present yourself convincingly and confidently. And being on social media you just cannot pretend this element. Its not one time event. It's an ongoing process. The continuity and sincerity is must.
