1. Tell me about you and your journey.

I really wish I could keep a count of how many times people have asked me about my journey, so here’s a little insight into my journey.
I’ve been fond of beauty and cosmetics since my Childhood, I still remember ruining most of my mother’s and neighbours lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes! But it took me a little while to turn my passion into profession.

It all started during my graduation days when you have to decide between your post-graduation and job, so I was very confused about it. My dad came up with an idea of giving this passion a chance to grow as my profession.

It was a very tough decision but it turned out to be the best for me. My mom always wanted me to become an educator, so I started providing training to aspiring MUAs in my later years and self makeup sessions for beauty lovers!

2. Why did you choose this career?

Well, the choice of career again links it to the passion and interest I always had in makeup, as a freelancer you get to travel and meet new people which I’ve always loved. So more than a profession, it became my way of life.

3. How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?

As a freelancer, it starts with your friends and relatives, and then social media! You really have to be into social media, especially Instagram to build your clientele! Instagram works as your platform to display the art!

It's like you always need an initial pull, there will be moments when you'll get less of work, there will be moments when you things won't go as planned but then moving through them and crossing these huddles makes you more confident and enhances your work.

4. What are some of your top makeup tips?

I’ve always been a firm believer of “Less is more” as I’m more into natural makeups. For me, makeup means enhancing natural features and not changing it. In short, I believe in keeping the look minimalistic and simple to enhance the natural face and get a better story out of it.

5. What kind of job opportunities one can get after becoming a makeup artist?

During the start of my career I never really streamlined my domain. The industry is too wide and different works don't overlap each other, so I won't suggest anyone stick to one segment rather they should explore more in the field.

You can get into bridal industry, editorial shoots, magazine shoots, YouTube related works and also apply for jobs in different brands like Mac, Bobbi Brown, etc

6. Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?

For aspiring artists, I would recommend 7 days to 15 days of intensive training programs. Makeup isn’t really complicated, once you’re aware of all the tips and tricks, you’re a pro already! I don’t really recommend month-long courses.

7. Your favourite book and why?

You can heal your life by Louise Hay- This is one of the best books which motivates you and keeps you in the right mind space which is actually required. It throws light on positivity life lessons and enlists a lot of affirmations required at your workplace and family and clients. I love this book. It changed me for the good and helped me to be a person I currently am.
