Designing Has Aesthetically Transformed the World We Live in - Husain Raj


If you wish to develop and hone your sense of design then you need to be observant, and appreciate the beauty of small things around you. Because I get my inspiration by the things and the people around me, by nature and by admiring how it all can be transformed into one appealing visual.

1. When and how did you chose to be a graphic designer?

I started when I was in High School, I used to admire graphics and designs and just wondered how these were created. That's when I developed an interest and I was keen on learning Designing.

And since then I have come a long way and my passion keeps growing as I am curious about the new trends that come up every year in Graphic designing.

2. What is a role and scope of work for a graphic designer?

My role as a graphic designer is to give life to the ideas by visually representing them. I create visual concepts, with the help of diffrent software and at times we provide draft sketches of certain concepts.

Graphic designers play a key role in brand and product development as we design the overall layout of the product, and further help in marketing activities by facilitating various advertisements, posts, brochures etc.

The scope of a graphic designer is increasing rapidly, as businesses are making a switch from physical to being virtual, which requires a designer to set up their virtual platform that looks appealing to the client.

3. Which are some of the tools & software that a graphic designer must be aware of?

The most important tools and software that are known as lifelines of a graphic designer are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Palleton, Coolors, Canva, Affinity Designer, Corel Draw.

4. How in your opinion has this profession changed over the years?

Designing has aesthetically transformed the world we live in. I believe over the years the field has been modified quite drastically and there are several improvements, such as changes from modern technology from the software and hardware of the computers to up-gradation in designs. In fact, the profession keeps evolving with a change in trends, and taste of the consumers.

5. Do you often have to keep upskilling yourself?

Yes, I need to be up to date with the new software, tools and the designing trends in the market. So I am always well informed about the changes through my research, by reading magazine articles online, listening to podcast etc.

6. How can one develop a keen sense for design and aesthetics?

Keep learning from the beauty of the things around you and it will help you develop a sense for design and aesthetic.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book is By Sarah Hyndman known as “Why Fonts Matter”. While most individuals and designers undermine the value and the ability of the fonts to have an impact on the viewer, this books explains why fonts are important? and why do they matter? Because she mentions that every font has a different personality that can create trust, confidence, and attract the viewer.
