Self-Learning Is a Great Experience If You Know Where to Look for Answers - Saurabh Deshmukh

I love giving my own touch to any recipe and I believe that pouring love makes my dishes stand out. Each of my blog posts is in detailed and I really slow down and take time while writing and photographing for each post.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I can’t believe it, but I’ve made it through my first two years as a food blogger. I officially started this blog in September 2018 as a hobby at first but it has turned into much more than that.

At the beginning of 2018, I started working on it practically. I purchased my domain, made my own logo and bought my theme back in August of. Then, I started shooting on the weekends and used to post reviews of dishes of various Restaurants on Instagram, but I wasn’t happy with them.

I didn’t feel the quality of my photos were at par. I also felt that I needed to have a good quality camera, but I didn't have that much money to go for DSLR. Then, I borrowed it from one of my friends.

At the end of 2018, I started working hard and finally it pays off. I started receiving invitations from well-known hotels in Pune.

2. What led you to do food blogging?

Actually, I'm an Engineer. During my graduation period, I was very humble about my career. Cause, genuinely I didn't have any interest in Engineering. That time I was very passionate about my hobby and that was a food blogging. Then, I thought that's the one thing which can propel my life journey.

3. What does your typical day looks like?

Well, as I told you I'm a food blogger. So, It is more important for me to read a lot about the current scenario in the food sector. So, moving to the main part of my answer.

I usually start my work at 7:30 am, collaboratively plan my day, and make sure that the most urgent work gets done first. I do believe in planning a time table on daily basis.

I just love reading, That's why while having breakfast I read a book every day. Then, I go outside to get the information and pictures for my blog. Mostly, I get an invitation from various restaurants and hotels.

After coming back to home, My next job is checking my comments and replying to any that have come in overnight and then checking my social media and again replying/retweeting/liking/commenting as necessary.

I try to be strict with myself, though and only allow myself to do 5 or 10 minutes at this point in the day. I allow myself more later on. (If I wasn’t strict, I’d probably be on social media all day!) Then I check my e-mails, delete the rubbish and reply to anything urgent, but then, again, I leave everything else until later.

In the evening, after having dinner. Time for bed. Except, of course, I check my phone ‘one last time’, inevitably to discover something urgent has come in that I really need to deal with and I’ll have to fire up the computer again!

4. When did you first decide that you wanted to create and write content about food i.e. for blogging?

First of all, I am very conscious about food blogging. I am not doing it as a career but as my hobby. I am a food lover since childhood. Side by side, I used to write articles since I was 15 years old.

So, it became a part of my daily routine. Self-learning is a great experience if you know where to look for answers. I was fascinated by the terms used by my favourite author 'Paulo Coelho'.

Going through some of the well-written articles related to food blogging, I have really started understanding these work very well. I guess you don't have to be good at everything, but you can excel in the area of your interest.

A lesson I have learnt from my food blogging. When you want something from your heart then the whole Universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

5. Is there a dish you particularly associate yourself with?

I don't think so, I am associated with any particular dish. According to my perspective, You should associate yourself with each and every dish you make or you can see.

I love giving my own touch to any recipe and I believe that pouring love makes my dishes stand out. Each of my blog posts is in detailed and I really slow down and take time while writing and photographing for each post.

My perspective changes automatically, whenever I look at the dish and It force me to think about how it gonna taste. I love Indian and Italian food. No matter what time it is or what mood I can literally have my favourite food.

Biryani, Burgers, Pizza make me wonder through their aroma and taste. The taste is very subtle is Indian cuisines while Italian food to be precise is somewhat on the spicier side. So both the cuisines balance my taste.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

Read to live and live to read!

I generally enjoy reading books which have flowery language, have deep content and have an intricate plot-line. No wonder my favourite author is Paulo Coelho.

I usually hate thrillers. I find them boring and time-consuming. I mostly prefer to read biographies, science fiction and motivational books. One of my favourite books is The Alchemist, I read it 4 to 5 times till now.
Paulo Coelho has given an enormous life living lesson in that book. I must say, you must read it before you die.

I personally think reading is not just an activity to engage our mind into something productive but to constantly seek advice from the great ones on how to live.

There is no such need for building vocabulary by reading cause I have personally never seen a situation like someone is talking and the person isn’t getting the right word to continue the conversation.

But the reading activity should be treated like the activity for our own pleasure rather than to build vocabulary and to learn. Once we develop that approach, it gets really easy to get along with the habit.
