A Blogger Whose Content Is All About Parenting & Traveling - Gopa Dutta

Gopa Dutta

If your audience can't relate to your content and if you are not consistent in posting, it becomes difficult to be known as or to be a successful social media influencer.

Tell us about your background and journey.

I am a post-graduate in Advertising and PR. I have worked as a Client Servicing Executive with advertising agencies. Just before the marriage, I left my job, (took a break actually). And after marriage, I traveled a lot with my husband and I started working on my own venture. My venture is an online shopping portal of handicraft and handloom items from North East India. After the arrival of my son, my work took a backseat as I wanted to give all my time in upbringing my son. And the moment I am a mom of two kids and have started working on my projects again.

What led you to start your page on Instagram and what is it about?

When my son was growing up and as a first-time mom I was always looking for parenting advice on the internet. As I didn't have any elders to guide me and I was staying with my husband only there were times when I didn't know what to do in some particular situation. So asking other moms and looking for information on the internet was the only option. At that time this thought came to me that there are many women like me who would also need help/guidance like me. That's why I came with my Instagram and Blogging page which is about parenting and my travel stories as I love to travel.

How would you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?

Being a blogger gives you more freedom to express your thoughts and its long term. A blog written 10 years ago will show up even today on the internet. It maximizes its value to the readers. There are more detail and depth to it. Whereas an influencer your content is more of a marketing type because you are trying to influence your audience either to buy the product or ideas that you are promoting

Is it financially sustainable to be an influencer today?

It depends on person to person. If you have a good number of followers or you are a celebrity, then it can be a good source of income. But everyone wants to be an influencer nowadays. But taking it as the only source of income is not something I would advise. Of Course, it is a great platform to make some side income. But in the long run, it is not feasible.

What do you think influences consumer behavior?

Be true to yourself and preach what you practice. You have to be consistent. If you cannot associate yourself with a product, then don’t promote it. One needs to set an example for the audience. For example, I don’t promote products that are not sustainable. You will never see me promoting a disposable diaper. You have to be clear whom you want to target and what is your message.

What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?

My idea of success is to enjoy and love my work and my mantra is to take things positively.

How can someone become a successful social media influencer?

Good Content, being consistent and engaging with your audience are the main factors. Practice what you preach. If your audience can't relate to your content and if you are not consistent in posting, it becomes difficult to be known as or to be a successful social media influencer.

Which is your favorite book and why?

I love reading self-help and motivational books. Whenever I feel low I grab these books to keep me going. The Power of your Subconscious Mind is my all-time favorite book.
