5 Reasons You Should Not Burst Firecrackers This Diwali

Diwali- the festival of lights; the festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. Diwali is one of the grandest festivals celebrated with a great amount of zest and zeal across the country. People coming from different walks of life, leave no stone unturned in decorations and preparations for the festival.

However, over the years the meaningful and bonding celebrations are replaced by lavish-spending and a mark of one's societal status. Numerous families spend enormous amounts of money on firecrackers and firecrackers. This may bring a few seconds of joy for some, but also brings permanent damage to the health of all.

State governments across the country urge people to avoid bursting crackers. This year the government are scrupulous attentive towards bursting of crackers. Amid the covid-19 global pandemic, the act of fireworks may worsen the present situation.

It is time to enlighten our homes as well as minds with the true meaning of Diwali by promoting a sense of sympathy towards the humanity, environment and towards global health. The first step is to stop bursting firecrackers and contributing to the already elevated pandemic conditions.

If you still don't think this is important, here are five reasons why you should certainly not burst crackers this Diwali.

1. Aggravates Respiratory system problems

India, being second amongst the world's most populated cities suffers from a worsened air quality during Diwali owing to the bursting of crackers. Children go with the excitement to burst crackers and are at a much higher risk of developing chronic respiratory problems.

Children and older people are most vulnerable to these problems. Also, if we take a look at covid-19 patients' ratio, again children and older people show higher risks. All age group suffers badly from air pollution during and post-Diwali. It is best to keep the harmful chemicals of firecrackers away from our loved ones.

2.  Intolerance to high decibels

Noise pollution is also severe as air pollution. In recent years, the demand for higher sound-producing firecrackers has increased. According to Experts, noise level beyond 120 decibels can cause a nervous breakdown and mental health disorders.

Pregnant women suffer from stress and lack of rest due to loud noise. Moreover, innocent animals incapable of speaking suffer immensely from the noises and residues from leftover firecrackers.

Almost 99% of the population stayed home in the past six-eight months. The tolerance towards traffic noises, surrounding sounds are decreased. The sudden elevation of decibels after having a habit of low decibels, one may suffer from serious health issues. Loud noises may lead to shock in some people, and they may develop heart and hearing conditions.

How about a decibel free Diwali?

3.  Waste beyond control and limited manpower

The waste generated due to the outer casing of the firecrackers generates an amount of uncollectable minute particles. The half-burned crackers consist of unused chemicals and other harmful substances. These are harmful to animals and humans in many ways. Also, many metro cities have issues of overflowing landfills.

Now, during the global pandemic, such acts will only add to the panic of, the government when their hands are already full in providing nursing to covid patients and maintain the safety in the country. We must step out only in necessary conditions, but the harmful waste generated during Diwali calls out for more manpower, and need of cleaning workers amid life-threatening situations. If you think carefully, your few seconds of joy may ruin many lives.

4.  Fire accidents and injuries

Every year, there are pages of news solely containing fire accidents and injuries during festive seasons. These contain explosives and harmful chemicals so dangerous that no amount of precautions or safety can prevent damage.

Illegally produced firecrackers may have improper functioning that sometimes causes lethal injuries. Most cases are of burn due to the explosion of firecrackers and face injuries. Same goes for other living things around us. In village areas, there are accidents of wildfires or crops and harvest going to ashes in seconds.

It is important to see that, due to lockdown people are already suffering from financial losses and unemployment and such incidents will add fuel to fire.

5.  Promotes Chinese products

The firecrackers and other products sold at lower prices during Diwali are imported from China; you can sense the risk here. The Indian government has boycotted and banned Chinese goods recently. However, many Chinese products are illegally brought in the markets of India. They may be toxic and harmful as they are illegal. There are fake Chinese products which are labelled 'made in India'.

We can completely boycott Chinese product, boost our economy by supporting domestic businesses and keep our loved ones, country and our brave soldiers safe.

This year, China has already sent its biggest cracker all around the globe and, we are still in lockdown. Be wise and a proud citizen of India.

I hope this provides you with meaningful insight on how firecrackers are sheer wastage of hard-earned money. It is a few seconds of joy with irreparable damages to every living and non-living thing around us. You can have a more meaningful Diwali by doing charity, helping small domestic business, sharing memorable moments with your loved ones. Let us make Diwali peaceful and an occasion of merrymaking for everyone.

STAY SAFE, STAY HEALTHY.
