Sangay Tsheltrim - We Are All Human And If That Person Can Do, So Do I (Actor, Producer & Fitness Icon)

Sangay Tsheltrim

I feel the most important thing in life is to believe in yourself and be obsessed about your passion and your goal be it actor, dancer, singer, or any other profession. Only when we are obsessed with the goal, we can focus and work hard then make it happen.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I did my education from Bhutan. After my 12th grade, I was selected to undergo army officer training from the National Defence Academy, Pune in 2001. After I graduated from NDA I went to Indian Military Academy in Dehradun for post-graduation.

I got commissioned in the Royal Bhutan Army in Dec 2005. I served in the RBA for 2 years and got selected in The Royal Body Guards in 2008. I served His Majesty the King and the members of the Royal Family for 5 years and took voluntary retirement to pursue my passion for bodybuilding.

I won 2 gold medals, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze in the Asian Bodybuilding Championship and also won the Mr Bhutan title in 2017.

After I hung up my trunks I did my first movie titled Singye (lion), the first action blockbuster movie of Bhutan. I was also the producer of the movie and won 4 National Film Awards. I also won the best debut actor the same year.

In 2019 I met Salman Khan Sir in Mumbai through my close friend Haider Khan, who also directed my upcoming movie Rohingya. After that, I got a pivotal role offer from Salman sir in the upcoming movie Radhe.

2. Did you ever think or dream of being an actor?

I always used love acting and love to see myself on the screen but I never thought I would ever become an actor. Everything just happened without a plan or a dream.

3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become an actor?

I feel the most important thing in life is to believe in yourself and be obsessed about your passion and your goal be it actor, dancer, singer, or any other profession. Only when we are obsessed with the goal, we can focus and work hard then make it happen.

It is also very important to test ourselves and take risks in life. We never know what we are good at till we try once. We might fail but we should never give up. I tell my self that nothing is impossible in life. We are all human and if that person can do, so do I. That’s the kind of mentality I work with.

4. If not this, what would you be doing?

Since acting was my passion and not my career. Back at home, I have real estate business and also I own the biggest gym in Bhutan as mentioned earlier.

5. For a complete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?

Since I am also an outsider, all I could say is I was very lucky when it came to acting but I also worked harder than the ones who are privileged. So if we work hard, opportunities will come. Grab it and work harder than before.

6. What is your mantra of success?

Mantra for success is, Luck favours only those who work hard.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

I could never complete any books in my life. I don’t have the patience to sit still and read. I would rather watch movies based on books like the God Father by Mario Puzo.
