Is This Based on a True Story?
According to urban people, witches used to roam the streets of Bangalore. Witches used to prey on men. They used to knock on the doors and call out the person inside the home in the voice of their loved one. After hearing the voice, the person would generally open the door and then primarily die in the next 24 hours.
People found a solution to this “Nale Ba” which means Kal aana in Hindi. They used to write outside the doors and walls. It was believed that upon reading this the lady would leave and come the next day.
This legendry story became a sort of a true story in Bangalore. And 1st April is celebrated as “Nale Ba Day” even today. Several people at the time heard knocking on their doors and many unexplained murders took place as well.
While in conversation with the director of the movie, he said that Stree is not only based on the legendary story Nale Ba, it also consists of many such myths all over India.
Amar Kaushik, Director of the movie said “We adapted the ‘Nale Ba’ story, but we also took some phenomena from the north, because every part of India has its own phenomenon, every state has some superstition or the other. So it’s not just one place’s incident - we’ve adapted such legends from all parts of India to make Stree.”
"Everyone interprets a story differently. And this interpretation is not made in such a way that it suggests that you believe it. It really depends on the perspective of the viewer. The story is out there. It’s happening in our country. It’s up to you whether you want to believe it or not."
While Story of Nale Ba was from the South but this movie was set in Northern India. Certainly, the movie was awesome and was different from all Bollywood movies. To be honest, the hype around the movie was worth it.
