Ar. Komal Doiphode

I want to create a hi-tech city which will have all the facilities for every age group of the society. It will be a sustainable city, which will not harm or exploit any natural resources.

1. Tell us about your background and journey. When and why did you choose this field?

I am a Practicing architect in Nanded, Maharashtra. I completed my B.arch degree from Dr B N College of Architecture, Pune, Maharashtra. I am from a media family. We own a prestigious newspaper named Prajawani. My granddad was a renowned senior journalist.

I had always dreamt of becoming a war journalist since childhood. But, destiny had some other plans for me. I was a creative child, I was leaning towards art. Art made me seek interest in architecture, dance, swimming, and drawing. I am a trained Kathak dancer, state-level swimmer and of course a passionate architect. I decided to be an architect when I was in 8th grade. Now, here m I Ar. Komal Doiphode.

2. Do you have a dream project or your favourite project?

Yes, I do have a dream project, I want to create a hi-tech city which will have all the facilities for every age group of the society. It will be a sustainable city, which will not harm or exploit any natural resources. I also want to become the head of the Archeological Survey of India as I have a keen interest in conserving our world heritage sites.

‘The Falling Waters’ is my favourite project by world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright near mill run southwestern Pennsylvania, for the Kaufmann family in 1935.

3. How can one identify and appreciate good architecture?

Architecture is art brought into reality. There is nothing like bad or good architecture. Every work is unique in its own way. Appreciating every form is a true sign of a good designer.

By maintaining the art in its original form is the only honest way to appreciate it.

4. Who is your favourite architect and why?

My favourite architect is Le Corbusier (Swiss-French) because he believed that the originality of the materials used to build a structure should retain in its original & raw aesthetics. His designs combined functionalism with bold sculptural expressionism.

5. Do you have any tips for people who want to join this field?

If you are willing to join architecture then you are most welcome. One should be passionate about the profession. Architecture teaches you everything that one can learn in his life. Be ready for hard work!

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book (Dharma Grantha) has to be Shreemad Bhagwat Geeta for sure!

It teaches you how to live life. It helps you in every phase of your life. You can find all the answers to all your questions. Reading Geeta is a personal choice. But, if you as me about other books then it has to the ‘Shiva Trilogy’ by Amish Tripathi. I loved this trilogy as he has written that about the journey of a man who became God just because of his heroic deeds!
