The capital city of the Southern India’s Telangana state is Hyderabad. Before the division of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (on 2 June 2014), Hyderabad was the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Rich with various heritages and cultures, Hyderabad is the city where Qutub Shahis, Mughals and the Nizams ruled and shaped the history. In the olden days, Hyderabad was known as Baghnagar- The city of gardens.
Why Should You Travel to Hyderabad?
Hyderabad is a mesmerizing place rich with culture and history in every turn you take. A place where you get to enjoy their culture, witness some of the historical monuments and shopping. When you visit the City of Pearl, shopping at least one item of pearl is a must. The fireworks that take place inside your mouth when you taste their authentic food is just amazing.
You all know one major reason to visit Hyderabad, to see the Ramoji Film City, the most famous tourist attraction. Even though, Hyderabad is a one-time experience in my opinion, you should plan your trip properly in order to get most of the vacation.
Places That You Must Visit
There are always a huge number of places that you can visit but when you are going for a trip, you should always choose the most important and recommended places according to your preferences.
Charminar: All of us have come across this word in our history textbooks. It is a beautiful four-pillared minaret built by Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah as a memorial for the lives lost to plague. It is the monument that represents Hyderabad.
Golconda Fort: It is one of the most magnificent fort complexes located in India. It is located on hillside on one side and a spiralling fort on the other. Its intricate internal design and location makes it one of the strongest forts.
Ramoji Film City: One of the Asia’s most popular tourism and recreation centre is the RFC. It has made its way into the Guinness World Record Book for being the largest film studio in the world. It has so many vibrant and colourful themed locations which would mesmerize you and at the same time tire you but you wouldn’t regret it a bit.
Laad Bazaar: The go-to place to shop for the exquisite bangles and other things that are special in Hyderabad. Walking along the streets with colourful bangles hanging in nearly every shop. The most beautiful ones I saw were the multicolour beaded glass bangles and brought home 2 dozen of it. So, make sure to buy those for yourself and for the girls you love and care about.
Hyderabad Pearls: To get the pearls from the City of Pearls, you should visit the Hyderabad Pearls. They have exquisite collection of pearl jewelleries to make you fall in love with it.
Hussain Sagar Lake: A 19-ft Buddha standing in the centre of a man-made lake. If the buddha wasn’t enough, you can also go for boating and other water sports.
Lumbini Park: Located opposite to the Hussain Sagar Lake. The main highlight of this park that I have been to is to see the laser light show. I personally wasn’t impressed because I have seen much highly-organised laser light shows, but if you haven’t seen any laser light shows, you should visit it to experience and feel the excitement.
Salar Jung Museum: The largest one-man collection of antiques in the world is housed here. The Veiled Rebecca is one of the most prominent artifacts in the room along with the furniture, study room and various galleries. There is also a time allotted where you can witness the working of The Veiled Rebecca.
Chowmahalla Palace: It is an architectural beauty with intricately designed walls. This was the building where the guests of Asaf Jah’s dynasty were entertained.
Points to Keep in Mind While Travelling to Hyderabad
Like travelling to any city, you have to keep some important things in your mind, you have to do it when going to Hyderabad as well.
1. Always keep yourself dehydrated.
2. Book your rooms prior and do not let your travel agent do it. While booking the room, make sure it’s appropriate in the condition that you are going in, that is, with family or friends or alone.
3. The travel agent should be verified and responsible, if any. Only if the travel agent is active, you’ll be able to get a proper experience of Hyderabad.
4. Dress comfortable but stylish as you’ll be exhausted.
5. If you reach early in the morning, check-in to your room and then go on and about for the day. If you reach in the evening, have your dinner and then check-in because at times the hotel you are staying at may or may not provide you dinner.
6. When going to RFC, reach there early (by 9:45 a.m.). RFC is a one-day attraction so wear a sports shoes if possible or the most comfortable shoes.
7. Plan your journey at least a month before and book for reservations especially if its holiday season.
8. In order to make it budget-friendly, you should opt for a 3-star to 4-star hotel room and book it at least a month before as mentioned before. Along with it, you can follow the following pattern to enjoy the day:
First day: Leave in the morning and visit the Salar Jung Museum and Chowmahalla Palace followed by lunch and then visit Hyderabad Pearls (nearest). End your day by visiting the Hussain Sagar Lake and the Lumbini Park.
Second day: Reserve it for Ramoji Film City.
Third day: Visit the Golconda fort and then have your lunch. You can then visit the Charminar and shop at Laad Bazaar which is just near Charminar. You can also explore the masjids that are built there to appreciate the architecture.
This can be followed by having a tea and returning to your room or having a flight/train booked at the night time and heading towards the particular destination. This way you can enjoy in a budgeted manner without missing out on much.
Bonus: Food Must Haves
1. Hyderabadi food is a heaven for foodies, especially, non-vegetarians. There are some of the dishes that me and my family tried and the sweets were the best (especially for the sweet tooths).
2. Haleem: A rich mutton stew, slow-cooked and especially made during Eid festivities.
3. Hyderabadi Biriyani: When you hear someone say biriyani, it is the Hyderabadi biriyani that comes to your mind and this biriyani won’t disappoint you.
4. Hyderabadi Baingan: A dish that doesn’t gel with the above dishes but is delicious enough to make you lick your fingers clean.
5. Qurbani Ka Meetha: The most iconic, traditional dish I have had. Even if it made with dried apricots (something I am not that fond of), it tastes heavenly.
Note: These food suggestions may not be preferred by all since we all have unique taste choices.
