Frederick Dharshie Wissah - The Struggles That People Went Through To Put Food on the Table Inspired Me (Kenya Based Photographer)

I was born in the late ’80s in a humble village in Kenya. Growing up, I saw firsthand the struggles that people went through to put food on the table; I was inspired to share these stories with people to see. This is how I got into photography.

Over the years, I grew closer to the camera. This is among the reasons that I went into modelling immediately after completing university. Later, I learned about Human Interest and Environmental photography which I decided to specialize in; motivated by my intent to express how I feel through pictures

Tell us about your background and journey.

Later, I learned about Human Interest and Environmental photography which I decided to specialize in; motivated by my intent to express how I feel through pictures.

I have had the opportunity to be recognized, nominated, and win multiple awards both locally, in Kenya, and internationally. My work has been featured on Forbes, National Geographical-NatGeo, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Sun, just to name a few.

As a philanthropist, I am the founder of a charity initiative called 'Souls of Charity Initiative' which aims to give back to our communities through volunteering time, energy, and resources with simple gestures of kindness.

How and when did you realize your passion for photography?

When I joined modelling, I was used to being in front of the camera but I knew there was more to that. The need to know the magic behind the camera is what inspired me to get into photography. Also, I needed to document the Souls of Charity’s journey, an organization I found in 2010.
