Amanda Pedroso - Fashion Is Now Adjusting Itself for Women (Brazil Based Fashion Designer)

Tell us about your background and journey.

I think I’m just beginning my journey as a 19 y/o just graduated Brazilian fashion designer! I always loved doing everything that involved fashion, drawing, making up new runway scenarios, styling, and so on.

So I guess that was never known for me, I’m kinda boring for a background storytime. And from being an only child from a single mom I always had support, until this day she always has my back to keep me going!

This year is going to be the second year of working on Let’sGym, a Brazilian fitness brand, which I started off with an internship!

Why fashion industry is often considered women-centric and stereotypes men? What's your opinion?

No, not at all, have you ever seen the world? the world is men-centered and it goes as far as fashion. Everything is made to please men, business, and art, therefore fashion.

Women are gaining their freedom to turn the narrative to themselves just now, we see women wearing fancy dresses all the time and that's ok but that doesn’t mean that fashion is centered around women! Fashion is just now adjusting itself for women, for all shapes, colors, and cultures.

How can one become a successful fashion designer according to you?

It’s very difficult to know at this moment where anything can become a “trend”, and seems impossible to create something new but I would say, being true or real. Enabling yourself to create what you feel and to be happy and proud of it, you’re going to attract that for you as well.

What are some of the top colleges for studying fashion in India and the world?

I don’t really know and understand this subject, growing up in a very small city, I knew I only had one option so I never searched for other places, even to this day.

Who is your favorite fashion designer and why?

I love Alexander McQueen with all my heart, he made me fall even harder for what I do, I learned so much from just watching him do what he used to do, he made me who I am. Others are worthy to take a look at our Leaf Xia and Denma Gvasaia.

Do you have any tips for people who want to join this field?

I would say not to only rely on social media for your work, seeing others succeed can be a little overwhelming for those who are just started or for those who are independent. Always stay true to what you are, find out who you are and what path you want to go for in your fashion world, and learn everything from it.

Which is your favorite book and why?

I actually love sci-fi and I don't read fashion or anything work-related and declare them as my favorites so I would definitely say that Annihilation is my fave, it’s different and I love the mind trip it takes you.
