1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I started with photography at around 14 years old, I was 14 back then, and I was just using a phone to take pictures. I got inspired by a lot of my classmates because they did similar things as well. Then I realised that my pictures were not as nice as theirs because they were using a DSLR.

So I invested all my money into my first camera. One of my posts got featured by Hypebeast. And my following grew extremely fast after. Before I slept, I had 5,000 followers and the next day when I woke up I had 11,000 followers… As my portfolio and my following grew, some brands started to approach me. Now I can say that I’m doing it somewhat full-time, so it turned from a hobby into a career.

2. How and when did you realize your passion for photography and visual art?

Aside from the influence from my friends, I find myself admiring a lot of nice pictures online, and I always wonder how they shoot and edit it. Curiosity is what brought me into photography and visual arts.

3. What are some tips you would like to share with amateur photographers?

How I learned really fast when I just started is to copy other people's work. By copying how people shoot and edit, you will learn a lot of things very quickly. But please do not make this a habit, you need to develop your own style once you have sufficient experience. Also do not be afraid to rely heavily on editing.

I understand some photographers may feel editing takes the soul away from the photos as it is not “real” but truth to be told, we are living in such an advanced and competitive world right now where you need different skills to make yourself stand out and be better.

4. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful photographer and also filmmaker?

It is very important to find out your style of work. Go try out different types of genres, be it food, events, lifestyle etc. And then focus on a niche, this way you will have more experience in the field and also having a niche will make you “successful” faster.

5. What are various opportunities available for aspiring photographers and visual artists?

There are a myriad of opportunities that will come knocking at your door once you establish yourself out there. Such as branded deals, photography jobs and social media campaigns. It has allowed me to work with an array of big brands such as Samsung, Canon, Microsoft and more.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

I don’t read books, oops.
