I believe that you should always be going towards something. My mantra is to keep moving, that's it. There is always an excitement in getting up and knowing that you've things to do and you've goals to achieve. It's obviously better than having everything and not doing anything for the rest of your life.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I'm born and brought up in Delhi, India. Since childhood, I have a keen interest in art. I used to paint a lot and after a while, I realized that fashion illustrations make me more content. From early adolescence, I knew that I wanted to pursue fashion and that's what I did. Now, I'm a fashion design graduate.
I'm working as a designer and content strategist in a global corporation. Furthermore, my interests reach out to intellectual areas. I'm a reader and I love to be surrounded by books which made me pursue English honors. Hence, I'm an English honors graduate as well.
2. What led you to start your page on Instagram?
Starting an Instagram page for professional or financial purposes was never the plan. I like getting myself clicked mostly because I take so much time to pick out what to wear and so, I get excited about posting it. I started gaining followers right after I made my profile public but during the first wave of the pandemic, I thought I should do something about it now that I'm at home and it was my last semester so, I didn't have much to do.
I started reading articles and watched videos on how to get collaborations and campaigns. Moreover, I connected with a lot of content creators and stayed consistent by posting fashion videos every now and then. I liked how my content was getting appreciated. Nevertheless, I'm always exhilarated about shooting for anything linked to fashion.
3. Do you think that there will be a new style statement or fashion obsession with the new normal? If so what would be your choice and why?
Covid-19 has affected everyone and everything including the Fashion industry. Yes, I definitely feel that there will be a new fashion statement whirling the pandemic. In fact, I feel it's already there with the designer and trendy face masks coming out every now and then.
Influencers have started to embrace the new normal and commenced the obsession by encompassing masks in their fashion ensemble and tuning the colors and cuts according to it. The virus is not quite short-term as we expected so, if in any way fashion is motivating people to wear masks then I absolutely second that.
4. Is it financially sustainable to be a fashion blogger today?
With the emerging competition, it's quite difficult to stand out. If your content is saveable and noteworthy then it'll definitely reach out to people. It's somewhat risky to just depend on fashion blogging financially, considering that money is getting generated from brand collaborations only.
The cash inflow is rather fluctuating. If you're really passionate about fashion blogging then stick to it abreast a part-time job until you finally get a hold of it. Stay consistent and never lose hope!
5. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
I believe that you should always be going towards something. My mantra is to keep moving, that's it. There is always an excitement in getting up and knowing that you've things to do and you've goals to achieve. It's obviously better than having everything and not doing anything for the rest of your life.
I got firm about it after watching The Good Place, an American Sitcom. Basically, when characters in that show get everything, they start moving out of the assigned place because having it all wasn't enough for them and it didn't thrill them after a period of time.
6. Who is your favorite fashion blogger and why?
My favorite fashion blogger is undoubtedly Kritika Khurana mostly known by her Instagram username, thatbohogirl. In the generation full of enviousness and pessimism, she brings to light the significance of being positive and spreading positivity. Moreover, I'm a huge bohemian-style enthusiast and she gives out some amazing boho ideas to get inspired from.
7. Do you have any tips for people who want to join this field?
Although, I don't feel that I'm at a place where I can tell you how to exactly do it but the tips which worked out for me mostly revolved around the quality of content I was making. If your content is providing any sort of inspiration or satisfaction to the viewers then you're going in the right direction.
Reach and the audience will come to you as and when they will notice what they can gain from it. Apart from that, keep up with the trends and fads. Honestly, it's not that difficult. Instagram is now a platform with a bunch of talented artists and creators who can showcase their creative side and get a huge audience out of it.
