Tell us more about yourself and your profession.

I hail from Uttarakhand which is known for the Himalayas, holy rivers, and spiritual centers, but was raised in Faridabad, Haryana. I am the youngest child of my family and the first one to pursue a career in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics as both my elder brothers work in the IT sector. I have always been keen on the notion of health and fitness. 

Therefore, after the completion of my schooling, I chose to attend Manav Rachna International University and completed my master's in nutrition and Dietetics. I started my career as an Intern dietitian at the Asian Institute of Medical Science, Faridabad and after that, I worked as a Nutritionist at Dr. Shikha’s Nutrihealth, Okhla New Delhi. 

Thereafter I got another opportunity to work for a research organization, the Centre for Health Research and Development SAS which basically works for the child and Maternal Health and Nutrition.

I have been working with this organization for the last 3 years. I have played many roles so far in the field of Nutrition and dietetics started as a Dietitian, Nutritionist then a Researcher.



What is your fitness mantra?

What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?


One of the most common misconceptions is “ If you work out regularly, you can eat whatever you want” which is not true. Diet and exercise will give you a healthy lifestyle when both work together. One should consume all the major five food groups i.e. carbohydrates, protein, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, and fats along with work out. 

Another common misconception is “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” but the fact is that all meals are equally important provided we are choosing healthy food and eating mindfully all over the day.



How can one maintain a healthy lifestyle?


To maintain a healthy lifestyle one should start their day with a glass of lukewarm water with some kitchen hers infused in it according to the body types and medical condition. For example, fenugreek seeds infused water can be taken early morning by a diabetic patient as it helps to lower the blood sugar level. 

Physical activities such as yoga and exercise should be part of one’s daily routine. As diet plays a major role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle one should follow the correct food pyramid such as bodybuilding – protein (milk, meat, pulses), energy-giving – carbohydrates and fats (cereals, starches, fat, sugar), protective – minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber (vegetables and fruits). The inclusion of junk and processed foods should be avoided.



How can one build a successful career in your field?


After completion of requisite study and training in nutrition and dietetics, knowledge can be used in various fields such as teaching, hospital dietetics, research, or public health nutrition. 

Moreover one should be passionate about one career in this field to attain prowess.



What is one piece of advice you would like to give someone who wishes to lose weight?

Eat healthily, avoid junk and maintain a disciplined lifestyle steadily as patience always gives us sweet fruit.



How do diets and exercise contribute to overall well-being and happiness?

Diet and exercise are certainly two important keys to unlock the door of well-being and happiness as they both can affect your mood and daily life. As the study suggests that a good diet and exercise can help to reduce stress and prevent depression due to stimulation of a brain activity chemical called Endorphins which make you feel happy and positive.
