1. Tell us about your background and journey.
My name is Jinimol Sundarraj. Am from a middle-class family raised by a single mom. I have one elder brother who is totally off from social media. I am telling this because you can see none of us is interested in social media or other entertainment. My mom is a super strict teacher who always asks me to focus on my studies.
As a younger daughter, I have the responsibility of not listening to my parents. I decided to let me start making TikTok. yes, I used to do TikTok's then somehow through one of my friend compulsion I opened Instagram l in 2018. Where I have no clue how to update even my profile pic. Eventually, I started to learn & kept a decent profile. Although it looks good I never understood what I can do with it. I just upload pic & wait thinking it will magically hit 1k like. (I was so naive).
I worked in SpiceJet airline as customer service, then joined Superdry as a fashion consultant I know both are two different poles. Yet that is where I realised I have an interest in fashion & modelling. On top of it, I want to do my masters in the UK. it was a critical time for my life decisions but I still carried with my social media works.
After the ban of TikTok, I overtook insta & started my blogging (tats the best decision I ever made) No one taught me how to dress except my mom's dazzling saree I initialised to learn fashion, through books, magazines, Pinterest and hella sources. It wasn’t easy at all. I have to manage everything by myself from makeup to editing. I don't have a studio or lighting so I have to wait till the sun hits my hall. Somehow I managed I reached 20k in insta. (Definitely emotional time for me) I never believe someone can relate to my fashion & love my content luckily they did & am gratified.
Even after that, I struggled a lot in this COVID time alone in Uk where I have to manage everything alone from studies to jobs. Thankfully got good friends & Things started to fall into places I came to Uk, blogging was smooth, I started to get shoots & it’s going quite well now.
2. Fashion industry is often considered women-centric and stereotypes men? What's your opinion?
I feel fashion is for everyone. It never categorizes gender, colour or community. I reckon the first men runway show was in 1952. So I think there is nothing like fashion belongs to a particular clan.
3. How do you distinguish the term blogger from an influencer?
Blogger is someone who educates people with their content. They create content only to serve the entertainment & inspire whereas an influencer is someone who already got a big set of followers where they can potentially influence people to buy a product or service. So I wish I could myself as a blogger
4. What is your Idea of Success or your mantra in life?
I don’t have any personal mantra. All I believe is “thoughts become things”. It does
5. Who is your favourite fashion designer and why?
I adore every piece of work. The person who tries to put too much effort to build a dress is something more raisable & noticeable. I feel every small to the big designer will be my favourites.
6. Do you have any tips for people who want to join this field?
Tips? Of course not. I Am still learning & all I want to say is never lose hope in things you believe.
7. Which is your favourite book and why?
Of course SECRET is my all-time favourite.
