Julio Cesar MacTinez - In The Midst Of The Economic Crisis Of 2008, I Saw Myself Working As A Film Extra, I Realized That For Years I Had Denied My Vocation As An Actor (Actor, Spain)

The acting career is a long-distance marathon full of pitfalls and complications, where it is very important to always keep it in mind. There are times when you overflow with confidence and in others you feel insignificant and unable to address anything, sometimes you can go from one feeling to another in a matter of seconds several times a day.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I was born in Madrid, Spain, before dedicating myself to interpreting, I studied biology, worked in summer camps with children first leading the activities and then as director, I have been in the voluntary reserve of the army of my country, working in the laboratory of bromatology.

And in the midst of the economic crisis of 2008, I saw myself working as a film extra, I realized that for years I had denied my vocation as an actor, and after talking about it with my girlfriend I turned my life around and began to train in performing arts.

2. Did you ever think or dream of being an actor?

From a very young age I liked the movies, I was always playing to be Superman, John Waine. I made up my own stories and also recreated movies with playmobile and many of them I named after actors and characters from the golden years of Hollywood. But I always thought that I would not be able to learn the text of a movie or a play, so I abandoned that early vocation, although I kept inventing stories for my games.

3. How can one approach their career and have the confidence and belief to become an actor?

The acting career is a long-distance marathon full of pitfalls and complications, where it is very important to always keep it in mind. There are times when you overflow with confidence and in others you feel insignificant and unable to address anything, sometimes you can go from one feeling to another in a matter of seconds several times a day.

What really helps me to trust myself in any situation is the hard work prior to any interpretation, in the creation of the character, the analysis of the text and being aware of the objective of my character in each sequence.

Then there are also the people around you, their support and affection are essential in difficult moments, and even more so in beautiful moments, they help you not to lose your way dazzled by the lights and the applause.

4. If not this, what would you be doing?

Right now I can't imagine doing anything that is not related to the world of acting, I guess because I've tried other things, and they never filled me up as much as this. But if I had to give an answer, I would say directing movies and plays.

5. For a complete outsider with inroads, what advice would you like to give?

The best advice I can give is if you are going to dedicate yourself to this, do it body and soul, sink your escape ships, destroy your bridges, that the only alternative will be to get ahead, because if not, you will surrender to the minimum difficulty.

I have already mentioned it before this is a long distance race for most of us, you have to be constantly training, training, keeping your imagination alive you have to be ready to take any opportunity on the fly and not let her escape.

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

Gates of fire Written by Steven Pressfield, it is an epic story with a Greek drama undertone, where all the characters head towards their destiny inexorably, describing a dramatic arc that takes them away from the point where we began to know them. All this set from years prior to the battle of Thermopylae until shortly after the final victory of the Greeks against the Persians.

7. What is your mantra of success?

Work hard, trust your talent, and never give up.
