About the Director

The director of this web series, Neeraj Pandey, is a savant person. He is a director, producer, and screenwriter in the Indian film industry. He has given many marvelous movies to Indian cinema.

In most of his films, the central idea or theme has always been espionage and action. He debuted as a film director in Bollywood with a film called ‘A Wednesday’ which was a critical success. Then he started his career and did more films of a similar genre.

Both the movies ‘M.S.: 'The Untold Story’ and ‘Baby’ got the tremendous success that was made under his direction. He is also a producer in the movie ‘Rustom’. But this web series (Special Ops) has given him another level of recognition for his commendable direction.

About the Series

The series is absolutely an incredible piece of art that has all the more originality and theatricality in all the possible aspects. Basically, the series is based on the terrorists’ attacks on the Indian Parliament which were meant to be the biggest failures of our intelligence agencies.

As not even a single agency responsible to look out for the country’s security in different areas could actually get a clue about this mishappening. It became a hot topic for Indians as well as for international press.

The series is all about tracking and bringing back that one left terrorist, also responsible for Parliament attacks and the mastermind of the attacks, who successfully escaped then whereas others were killed on the spot.

There are eight episodes in the series each of about one hour. Kay Kay Menon as Himmat Singh is an agent of the Research and Analysis Wing, an intelligence branch, who hires other agents to complete the mission. At the end of every episode, there is an unexpected event that no one could expect, and that compels the audience to watch it further.

Every actor in the series worked with a great extent of perfection that nobody can’t imagine those characters without the faces of these actors. The action shown in the series is so real and limited that it does not take over the actual story.

People from all age groups can watch it. In the series, it is clearly depicted how troublesome, uncertain, and unidentified the life of an R & AW agent is.

With many facts and events that happened in the past, the series also has a fictional aspect that is shown so authentically that it doesn't look like a fictional part added to the story. At the very end of the series, the suspense got revealed about that terrorist whom they were trying to catch but was unable to do so.

And that suspense deserves to be suspense which will surely make anybody crazy as it was so out of the box thought. Moreover, any piece of art is appreciated so much when it is made through a collective effort. Not only actors but every person involved in the making of this series gave his/her best and that is reflected in the output itself.

The Bottom Line

Altogether, it was absolutely a watch-worthy series. The real locations like Turkey, Azerbaijan, Jordan, U.AE.,  added up more to the story. It was critically and commercially successful in both terms. It was appreciated by many Bollywood celebrities like Hritik Roshan.

It was released on an OTT platform Disney + Hotstar during the pandemic where people along with coronavirus were also juggling with boredom. Then it proved a great source of entertainment for all.

My ratings for the series - 5 on 5 ratings to this splendid work.
