How Perfectionism Is Destroying Your Productivity

Do you have self-doubts and worries that you don’t do a fine and superior job? Do you face the fear of committing mistakes? Do your actions make you feel that you are not worthy enough? Do your doubt your capabilities?

Then, that's a problem

Trying to be Perfect and attaining Perfectionism creates an ultra-competitive behaviour in a person, People who carry the badge of “Perfectionist” are someone unrealistic to me, I mean We all lump and struggle in our lives, try to deal with the shortcomings and face hardships.

Perhaps, But expecting nothing else than an unblemished act or performance is a ladder to dejection. As we all are familiar with the saying that “Failures are the stepping stones to success’’, They genuinely help a person grow and develop themselves.

Therefore if you try to be a perfectionist or try to achieve perfectionism in everything and everyone, take a pause and think that Are you not subliminally questioning your sense of worth? Because not accepting failures and shortcomings leads to self-doubts and demotivation.

Are You a Perfectionist?

Have you tried introspecting yourself?

Many of us might find perfectionism trait as motivational and magnificent but many types of research state that it is dangerous for the mindset of a person, As finding petty errors in everything is troublesome.

It might lead to a flawless piece of work but expecting nothing short of perfection from yourself might cause harmful intellectual effects.

Well, I can help you in introspecting yourself, If you have the following traits or behavior you’re a perfectionist,

1. Fear of Failure

Do you start delaying the work assigned to you? Do you find excuses and ample time in taking decisions?

Well, If you do so, it symbolizes your fear of failures and the future, A perfectionist often tends to develop the fear of failure and creates scary anticipation regarding the future and anything less than perfection is considered as the future.

2. Low Self –Esteem

People with High-Esteem are also high achievers, But perfectionists are also considered individuals with low self-esteem as they are judgmental at times, and are self-critical which can therefore isolate them from others.

3. You find no room for mistakes

Whenever you locate any errors, You tend to be the first one to jump into rectifying those errors.

4. You’re extremely hard on yourself

Any petty mistake easily demotivates you and you tend to become too hard on yourself and feel extremely bad about that single mistake that you committed for a long while.

5. Success is never enough

You are never satisfied with success and you tend to desire more, You are not happy if you don’t go for a higher and bigger goal.

6. Depression strikes you when you don’t achieve your goals

Failure makes you sad, You easily loses hope when you don’t achieve the desired standard of goals and you endlessly stress yourselves over everything.

Is Perfectionism Constructive

According to me, Perfectionism is delaying tactics and procrastination and I have witnessed two kinds of Perfectionists in life, one of those kids who just believe in planning and dreaming and secondly those who set high standards.

The first type of people develops desires and aspirations to achieve goals but fails due to self-doubts and lack of decision making, Questions like Will I be able to achieve? What if I fail? Arises therefore it leads to a situation that the person never starts.

The second type of people set higher goals in the initial stage and works too hard to achieve them, but consequently, the goals are too high to achieve.

Both types of stages lead to stress, anxiety, demotivation and depression.

Comprehend From Your Failures

Einstein once said, “Failure is Success in Progress”, Failure makes a person humble and strong, It helps a person to make improvements and corrections in his future ventures, Failures has got its pros and cons, Some take it as a second chance to improve and prosper, while some give up and decide to skip.

We get to know how much capable we are when we achieve success after failure, That journey from failure to success defines the potentiality of a person, the way he deals with the downfalls and rises high like the tides.
