Psychological Analysis

Venku, a widow for years, is at the center of the story. As a member of an orthodox brahmin family, she observes all religious customs. The mother-in-law of Venku, Nagalakshmi, insists on meeting the man she claims is the rebirth of her lost son. Nagalakshmi becomes emotionally attached to this guy and accepts him as her son. Social norms support this.
A challenge arises when Venku accepts him as her husband. When a widow chooses to live with a man who is considered the rebirth of her dead husband, society disapproves of her choice. In a broader sense, the movie emphasizes the acceptance of change from three different angles. An individual who is a mother accepts change within the constraints of her religious convictions.
As a wife, a woman accepts her husband as she feels she needs him. Another woman does court trials to confirm his existence as a rebirth of her father. Three different characters may represent three different generations or the changes in society that shaped them periodically.
You are left thinking about whether to accept the changes that are imposed on them. This is a war of thought about who is right and what is right.
There is a scene when Venkatalashmi and her daughter Rajalakshmi are having a conversation. Throughout this conversation, Venku, the lady around whom the story revolves, discusses her relationship with her husband. Also, she confesses that she had never trusted this new man in her life to be her long-lost husband's reincarnation.
A single dialogue in the movie changes the entire perspective of the movie. Up until that point, the audience would have believed she was innocent and had been misled. After that, the viewer is left with various thoughts.
The Bottom Line
In contrast with the commercial hits, parallel cinemas are not overly bright and colorful but keep you interested and attentive throughout the film. If you do not read much, this film will give you a glimpse of a novel with religious ideologies. It's a great visual treat if you have already read the book to be able to see all the characters in this movie
