Jovynn

Jovynn is a 20 year old DJ & content creator from Malaysia that’s actively on TikTok & Reels creating videos and sounds to inspire others on creating their own work of art.

She has curated a couple of sounds that have went viral & started trends on the
two hottest social media platforms.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

Jovynn

I started posting on TikTok actively in 2019 and my niche was a little different to what I do now on the platform.

I did videos more on lifestyle/meme related videos. In 2020, I was blessed with the opportunity to learn the skills of DJ-ing & have been putting those knowledge to good use by curating and tweaking sounds for the internet since then.

The learning process wasn’t easy, but with patience and my drive in passion led me to where I’m at today!

2. Is DJ'ing a mainstream and financially stable career?

I wouldn’t label DJ-ing as a mainstream job although anyone could be a DJ these days - it takes a lot of commitment for an individual to turn that into a career as scoring high paid gigs will require some time and lots of experience.

Jovynn

I’d consider it a financially stable career if one takes their time to actually learn how to market and brand themselves the right way.

Back then, I thought DJ’s could only profit from live gigs - I was wrong. Since starting with social media, I realised there’s plenty more opportunities this industry could offer; brand deals, music marketing & raising funds through livestreams.

3. Who is your favourite artist and why?

Peggy Gou! The DJ industry’s quite male dominated - to see a woman make a huge impact on the crowd with not only her energy & aura, but through her music & art of DJ-ing inspired me a lot to continue with my journey in this industry.

4. How and from where can one gain formal training for being a DJ?

I learned mine from a professional local academy (Goldsounds), if your country doesn’t offer that - there’s plenty of courses up online!

Some tutorials I watched on YouTube has helped a bunch as well.

5. What are the kind of opportunities you get after being a DJ?

You’ll get enquiries on gigs & if you grow your platform online, brands/labels may reach out to you on social promotions!

Not just that, you’ll definitely get to connect with loads of like-minded people that are in the same scene which means more collaboration opportunities!

6. Your message for people who want to make their passion their profession.

Your hard work and dedication will NOT go unnoticed, be patient and keep working towards your goal.

Jovynn

Nothing comes easy in life, and the journey may not always be smooth - there may even be some sacrifices you’ll have to make.

Never forget why you started & how you felt when you did. Keep the drive going, it’ll all work out the way you desire eventually.
